Pdotek,

Just want to clarify something - is the remote you purchased a replacement/additional for the existing system? ie did you have a working remote system already?

When I purchased the used Sorento it did not come with a remote. I just bought one of ebay and matched it by the fcc id that other 2004 Sorento owners had. I did check the remote verfication on keylessride.com and is showed that I had the remote entry system installed.

Being in UK I can't help much re specs. That web site implies that all 2004 Sorentos came with remote locking, but I'm not sure that is correct. It may have been an option in NA. (Also the remote shown is not like ours.) First I would check behind the dash (remove the side trim panel(s) next to the radio console) and check for the remote aerial - not sure which side yours will be, but ours is just above glovebox level between glovebox and console. (vertical stub aerial on a bracket)

And if you are tempted to buy more spares you can only program 2 remotes to operate the system. As soon as you program a second remote the system exits the program mode.

Hmm. So if you've got two remotes you can get them both working?

I'd heard that if you programmed a remote the other would stop wotking....

Actually you probably read that on the previous page of this thread - and that was quickly cleared up.

Sorry - yes you're right. Trouble is I've got a Sedona and I know its a different terminal to short.

Might give it a try anyway...

I have just bought an 04 ex model with the keyless entry and IMMO system. Due to the sale circumstances I only received one key and a non working fob.

Dealer quoted $118 for a second key blank (plus $35 and a day in the shop to program it) and - get this - $178 for the fob (plus another $35 to program it) If I wanted my original fob reprogrammed they could do it with the new one for only another $35. Add it all up and it's like 1- no 2 - no 3 - !!350-ish just to get an extra key. Call me cheap but this is a little much. (Oops, forgot to add the 17% sales tax we Canadians pay!)

I am sure glad to find this thread. I'll set up my first fob (thank you guys for great info) and hope to find a second on ebay soon.

I am trying to convince the local hardware man to import some of the "chipped" key blanks. He has a code impresser and does other imports but Sorento demand has not built up yet. I bought inactivated keys for $5 each, just to have something to unlock the doors to get my main out, should a mistake happen.

Does this work for a 2003 Sorento? I've tried two Viper remotes without success. The FCC IDs match, I follow the instructions (turn the key to On, jump pins 5 & 6, push lock button) but there's no sound and the remote doesn't function. The one that came with the car is an AutoMate brand. Could this be an aftermarket or dealer installed and the programming instructions don't work for this system?

I just received and successfully programmed a second remote for my 2003 Sedona EX. The jump was from the 12 and 16 pin in the diagnostic plug. I programmed the original remote first and then did the new one immediately after. It was quick and worked perfectly. I don't know if it's the same procedure for the other years but from what I can tell 2002-2005 are the same.
Here is what you do.

1. Use a jumper wire, connect the jumper between terminal 12 and terminal 16 of the diagnostic connector.
( It should look like this)

2. Turn the ignition switch to the on position
3. Press the lock button two times.
4. If you have a second remote press the lock button two times.
5. Turn the ignition switch off and pull the key out.
6. Disconnect the jumper wire from the diagnostic connector.
7. Test each remote for function.
