That's not necessarily "dirty info".

If you connect +12V to one side of a 12V lamp, then measure from the other side of the lamp to ground you will measure a full 12V, then if you then connected the open end of this lamp to ground it would illuminate and would most certainly not be a dead short.

I would trust the poster that said connect 5 and 6 , but can't confirm this, but your method of testing is flawed.

From Kia Tech info:

Code saving method
Receiver (ETACS module) can save maximum two codes from the transmitter.
(1)
Apply the battery voltage to the terminal "6" of DLC (Data Link Connector).

QED!

I used your instructions and they worked fine the replacement remote programmed and worked. But then the other remote I had stopped working, when I programmed that one the other one stopped working. How do i get them both to work?

I think you have to program the second remote before you remove the jumper and exit the programming mode - ie between points 4 and 5 of the instructions given. BUT, I'm not positive about that!

Default Remote keyless entry

Thanks, GEE6, I finally got it worked out. You have to program one right after the other, even if one is already programmed. Also remove the key from the remoteless entry as it doesn't work from inside the car.

So, have both remotes on your hand, connect 5&6, press lock on the first and then immediately press lock on the second.

Proceed as instructed, remove the wire and turn the key off.

Great stuff

Question

I purchased a remote off ebay and appears to be new. I tried the programming instructions as follows:

1) insert key and turn to on position
2) opened obdII connector
3) jumped pin 5 & 6
4) pressed lock button for one second (the turn signals never blinked)

I have verified that the 2004 Sorento works with the following fob
FCC ID: PLN BONTEC-T016
(attached photo as well)

Anyone have any suggestions? I would hate to have to pay the man to program this thing..

Thanks in advance!

patrick

It appears battery in the remote are good, I get a very bright red light when I press any of the buttons.
