Had my wifes 2003 serviced at the dealer yesterday, they did a 14 quart flush on it. Wound up spending about $500 for the full 30,000 mile service (actually have 40,000 on it) But $500 every 30-40K miles isn't too bad when the only thing you have to do in between is change the oil.

I never intended this to be a p*ssing contest over maintenance practices. I have owned and driven I don't know how many A/T in the past 35 years and have yet to loose a tranny due to poor fluid service. I do follow the "severe" schedule. I just don't feel that replacing all the fluid every time is necessary. How about we agree to disagree on this one. Have a good day.

Sorry Bro, didn't mean it to sound like I wanted to get into a "pissing contest" just trying to be helpful, no problem.

BTW....isn't "not replacing all the fluid every time" like changing your engine oil but not replacing all of it? What would be the point? Not trying to be a smart ass, just asking.

but wait till you get to the 60k service..tune, differential, transmission fluids, (dont beleive fluid changes every 30k are the norm) timing belt.........I still beleive the scheduled maintenance costs are high for KIA...."major" servicing every 30K isnt the norm.....

my 04 chevy doesnt have its first major service until 100K....and its simply tune up and coolant changes...it comes with a sealed transmission...doesnt even have a dipstick.....

The 30K service included the transmission, differentials, transfercase, coolant flush, fuel filter, wiper blades, plugs. This is normal service for a truck - which a sorrento is. The F150 that I had previous to the sorrento had a similiar maintenance schedule. We use the sorrento for towing our boat, so any preventative maintenance on the tranny is well spent.

Out of curiosity, what kind of 04 chevy do you have?

Oldjeep.
I agree with you. If I was using the Sorento as a truck I would be servicing the tranny in a more aggressive manner. I would install a large tranny cooler with a remote fluid filter. I don't pull anything with it. I use it as a family car. The kids were getting to big for the saturn we owned and the price was right.$17,000. Couldn't pass it up.

Socal.
I figure if KIA doesn't require me to replace the fluid for 100k under normal service then draining it every 30,000 is certainly not going to hurt it. I may still stick an after market filter on. I just have to figure out which tube is the suction and which is the discharge on the tranny.

Thanks everbody for the advice and concern.

I am going crazy, I cannot find documentation on where the fill plug is for a 2004 sorrento manual transmission, can anyone help?

Hello kkierii,

The fill plug is on the passenger side about the middle of the case. It is recessed in a "hole" and the plug head is about flush with case side.
