Default starter?

As quite a few people that visit these forums often know, I own a 1999 Kia Sephia, and had many many problems with it.

Now for my new problem...

Sometimes when I go to start my car, it will NOT start while in park, I have to do one of two things to get it to start.

1)Put the car into neutral, and then it starts

or

2)Mess with the shifter, put it back into park, and it starts right up.

Does anyone know what this problem could be at all. I think it may be the starter, but if it was the starter, why would I have to mess with gears to get it to start?

It's likely the 'range switch' on the gearbox that's on it's last legs.

Here's a schematic diagram showing the range switch and it's connection to the starter solenoid.
