Default Axle replacement tip needed

I'm replacing the axle on the passenger side of my 99 Sephia 5spd. That's the one that goes into the intermediate shaft.

Ok, well...what's the secret to getting it pried out? There's really no way to get anything between the two, and the large part of the flange is too rounded to serve as an effective prying surface.

Is there some type of prying tool that works better than the rest?

Thanks a lot...

Had the same problem with a Protege I used to own-nothing to pry on. I didn’t want to damage the old axle because of the core charge. I tried everything to pry with. My father came up with some sort of puller which only separated the axle into two. On the second day of trying I got desperate (wise) and decided to use an air chisel. I placed the tip of the chisel against the round flange at what seemed a good angle, hit the trigger and the axle came out rather quickly. Only left a tiny mark on the flange.

That side will come out from the tranny easy. The other side has to have some pressure put on it because of the internal lock spring. Try using some large slip joint plyers to wooble it first.

ok just chang my axle and i will tell you how i did it for this to work it has to be the factory installed axles reason why is they have locking clips that hold the inner joint together when you get your new axles you will notice they dont have the clips anyways heres how it goes tie a rope onto the shaft step back away from the car and give it a few good pulls it will not come out easly at first (there is a locking rings on both sides) another thing you should know is that the axle need to come strait out wether you are pulling or prying or they will bind up and you will be fighting it all day

Hey guys. I am new here and I am trying to change the Passenger side axle. Mine is actually on a Sedona. I got the outer part of the shaft out easy. The inner piece that connects to the intermediate shaft will not come apart. I have tried pulling, I've tried prying and I've even tried the air gun on the large section of the shaft. It will wiggle a little but the stupid locking clip will not give up. I don't want to have to pull the intermediate shaft out, since that will drain the fluid out. How the hell do I remove this thing. I am getting ready to hook up a come-along to it and start pulling. There has to be a way that I am missing. Please help this poor fool that can't get this thing apart. Thanks, in advance.

Pete

Just take a long flat chisel about 12 or 14 " long and 1' wide and about a 1/4" thick , put it on the crack between the tranny and axel and hit it with a hammer, it will pop right out.
