Default 97 Sephia-water leak

Hi all! I'm new here. Having a water leak problem. Noticed a puddle under the car recently. The liquid was rusty in color and smelled kinda like coolant. I had not had to add coolant since I bought the car used at 88,000 in '04. Checked the radiator and it was low so I added water as I didn't have any antifreeze. It took about a 1/2 gallon to fill it. I started the car and saw that the coolant was rusty-looking and not circulating. Looked underneath and saw the leak was dripping from below the belts off the engine guard. The heat gauge never goes over halfway although I thought that was normal til now. Wondering if the leak is from a bad waterpump, the coupler thingy near the alternator that someone told me can go bad and leak, or something else? Don't want to order a new pump if not needed. Any advice would be great! Thanks!
