Default Sound from gearbox

Hi Guys,

I juz got my Picanto last Fri and already ancountered a problem on the day itself. Ride was smooth plus a bit jerky during pick up, then around 15-20km, i realised there's some sound from the gearbox when i change 2nd, 4th and reverse gear. It's like some mechanical noise that sounds like "cluck cluck" when engaging the gear. The sound when i engage the 1st, 3rd and 5th gear is different from the 2nd, 4th and reverse.

I went to the service centre and they told me the sound is normal and this sound is KIA's characteristic but they couldn't explain why the sound is only at the 2nd, 4th, reverse gears and not on the 1st, 3rd and 5th gears when i questioned them a few times and they tried to avoid the question.

I also told them that i did not hear this sound when i did a test drive on the manual Picanto. All they could say was that it's normal and worse, the Technical Department Manager even told me that since i've bought the car i have to learn and live with that sound else i won't feel happy driving the car. What the....

I just want to ask every Picanto owners if this sound is really normal...Thank you

Talking gearbox noise

hi and welcome to the problematic world of picanto .
firstly dont take any crap from your dealer , if your not happy stand your ground and demand to be satisfied . even take it to another garage for a second opinion.the picanto gearbox is some what notchy and can sometimes be a pain to select reverse . when this happens put it into neautral release the clutch then try again ,it ll engage.for the rest of the changes slow your whole changing style down a little and dont rush , their is nothing to be gained in changing quickly .finally check your clutch free play it may need a slight tweek up cheers swampduck.
