hi all if you ve read my posts in the past , you ll know i m a driving instructor with a very tired picanto se that everything goes wrong with and i constantly bitch about and warn other pic owners about .
well i think she s dieing at 89000 miles and i cant find the problem.
some time back it developed a very slight missfire , intermitently at about 1500/2000 rpm then after a month or so the emmissions warning light came on . at this point the gas sensor ( lamba sensor ? ) was replaced . missfire still present and light comes back on again ! oh crankbolt was replaced under warranty many thousands of miles ago . at 89000 miles missfire still at 1500/2000 rpm but much more noticeable ,give her too much gas in to high a gear it coughs splutters wont accelerate and i can hear what sounds like pre ignition ( pinking ) can any one out there help cause me and my local garage are stumped cheers swampduck

I could not understand well what your problem was?

Cannot you accelerate? Or does your car have a high fuel consumption? Or what is the problem in detail?

hi f t h
in a nutshell the emission light comes on for a while then goes off
it missfires at 1500/2000 rpm
acceleration isnt as it used to be
and if you stick the gas pedal to the floor in to high a gear it will actually backfire before it starts to accelerate

I think you have a similar problem that I used to have.

The problem could be about the crankshaft, the gear that was attached to it may have been slip a bit, like 10-20degrees. This affect the timing between the camshaft and crankshaft and this nearly effects all of the car standards. You can look at my "acceleration problem topic" which I listed my problems in detail.

thanks fth i ll get the gear checked out . not sure its same prob tho as mine will still accelerate like stink if i keep the revs above 2000 rpm. it just pops and farts every now again up to 5500 rpm . its more the flat area at 1500 /2000 rpm thats the prob and the fact the emission check light keeps letting me know its their. its really a prob as i like my pic a lot but in 4 years its cost me a fortune in down time and repairs . just be warned if your thinking of getting one to use more than a quick jolly to the shops
