Default Kia Picanto Brake Problems

Hi, just new to the forum, been having a problem with my brakes for about a month now. Everytime i press the brake the handbreak light comes on, it used to be whenever i broke harshy, now its just everytime i brake. Anybody know what this is? I am useless with cars so any help appreciated, im assuming brake pads, but could it be worse?

i used to have the same prob bro, and i hope you have the same situation as i was, if so dont you worry. So that light keeps going on whenever you step on the brakes right? open your cars hood and check your brake fluid meter if were on the same scenario im sure your brake fluid would be close to the empty line indicator. if this is true then all you have to do is refill the brake fluid until your reach the maximum line indicator. after doing so start the car take it for a test drive and test if the light ont he brakes would be gone. if not then i suggest that you go to your dealer and have your cars brakes checked. ^^ hope this helps tc! and God bless

hmmmm so argie, are we on the same road? meaning was i correct that your brake light keeps going on because of low brake fluid. i cant help you out with what kidn of brake fluid becuase my cars not with me now its in a shop getting a new paint, to know what kind or type of brake fluid that is needed for our car, its there bro ive seen it. i dont know if in your country youd be able to buy brake fluids from gas stations but here in the philippines i just bought my brake fluid from a gas station

over here in the UK, we use dot4 brake fluid, I dont know if this is a standard equivilent elsewhere in the world, just have a look in yr owners manual that chould give you an idea of what is recomended by Kia for your country.

as i see it, there are two potential problems

(1) electrical / defective sensor

there is a sensor in the handbrake assembly that lights up whenever the handbrake is applied. maybe this sensor is defective.

(2) mechanical / stuck up handbrake cable

usually this sensor is attached to the handbrake cable, maybe the handbrake cable is stuck to a near activated position - so that when you apply the brake - the handbrake indicator lights up.

maybe your auto electician can check for sure.

DOT 3 or 4 will work just fine for you. Do NOT get DOT 5, as this will cause you to die.

Smile picanto brake warning

hi all if you look back thru my rantings you ll find that as a driving school car with 60 plus thousand miles things go wrong a bit . anyhow warning light , yes is usually low levels ,top with dot 4 , but the reason your levels are low is because your pads are worn and the extra fluid has gone to take up the space that the pads took . it is the front that are the first to go at about 30 000 miles . they are a doddle to fit if you can hold a spanner and twirl it ,if not give it a garage to do .anyway if any warning light to do with a braking system EVER comes on DO NOT DRIVE THE VEHICLE it is dangerous check it out pronto or you may die ! at the least your insurance wont cough up if you crash becouse of this . sweet dreams swampduck

Hiya,

I am having the exact same problem with my Picanto, well the light comes on if i brake harshly. I initially thought it would be brake fluid so looked to see, and I couldn't find where I could check it. Could anyone point me in the right direction of where to find it?

Ill get my car booked into the garage asap, as there is something else up with it too and its coming up on its 3rd birthday.

ps. what a fab forum, i have 2 problems with my car and I come on here and there are topics on both the problems on the very first page. Full marks, a++++
