Default fuel consumption

my pica LX is automatic - gassed up full tank almost 35 liters last thursday after i got it from the showroom and only yesterday it was already half consumed. was expecting a lot more since the car is known for its fuel efficiency. being a new driver i was surprised since i only do about 40-50 kph on ave city driving.

noticed that the car really takes time to pick up speed. does this have anything to do with the poor fuel consumption or is it coz i dont drive stick shift? pls enlighten me, experts.

Hi

I fill mine up as soon as I can when the fuel light comes on, and then I put 25GBP of fuel in it so roughly 27-28ltrs, and from full to fuel light comming on again I get about 310miles mainly motorways, and about 295 combined motorways/normal roads, mine is a 1.1LX Manual.

That must be true. I also have an A/T Picanto, and it takes about 9 l/100km. Now I have LPG (sequence BRC system) and have 10-11 l/100 km.

I really think, the A/T is the cause of the high fuel consumption. This, and the equipment like ABS, A/C with its cooler. I mean the weight of the car.

having an automatic transmission translates in high fuel consumption. what is not clear is that KIA claims that it's picanto model with the automatic transmission gets 20 kms / li (the manual gets 25 kms / li).

suggest that you fill the tank up to it's half meter mark. let this level be your 'basline'.

then add another 5 liters.

reset the odometer to zero

if the advertisement is true, you should have traveled 100 kms before the meter touches the halfway mark.

take note that excessively heavy traffic means more fuel consumption - roughly 30% more.

pls clarify -

before you converted to LPG you consume 9li / 100 kms - meaning
11.11 kms / li fuel consumption

now that you converted to LPG you consume 10-11li / 100kms or
9 kms / li. this means you consume more fuel now that its running on LPG?

how was the LPG installed in the trunk? does that mean you no longer have trunk space? how do you get the spare tire out?

These are Kia's listed Government figures

Fuel consumption man 1.0 man 1.1 auto 1.1
(Official Government Test Figures) mpg (1/100km)
Urban (cold) 45.6 (6.2) 43.5 (6.5) 38.2 (7.4)
Extra-urban 62.8 (4.5) 64.2 (4.4) 58.9 (4.8)
Combined 55.4 (5.1) 54.3 (5.2) 48.7 (5.8)

The Auto is a lot lower.

given that the combined use (urban and extra-urban) the automatic still yields 17 kms / li., i'd say its not that bad. however this brings to light a 'tradeoff' in having an automatic transmission on such a small engine (1.1li)., is that it may be under powered a lot in the low rev range, but (sigh) you cant have everything - at least you dont have to worry about gear changes (or be tired of shifting that stick with the manual tranny)
