Default Door speakers, tips?

I've bought some cheap 5 1/4" (13cm) Fenner speakers for the rear doors on my Picanto. It has space for speakers with a plastic grill but there is no speaker in there - I wanted something to fill the space.

Can anyone give me any tips on installing these, how to take the door panel off, etc? (I've never removed a door panel, ever! )

Also, the stereo deck has wires for the front and rear speakers (connected), should the wires already be inside the rear doors, or do I have to extend them from somewhere?

most factory installed speaker wires runs under the carpets, along the sides and slips into the doors via the double walls - both in the car body and into the door. with newer models - the door panels may not be easily removable. try to look for screws - usually in the armrests and you might have to remove the window crank (which can be tricky).,and the numerous plastic clips which usually holds the panel to the door. maybe its best to let the electricians (either from the dealership or from the more reputable car shops handle it). make sure that you watch them install the speakers so that if you do decide to change it at some later time - you now know how to remove the door panels.

Sweet!

I finally got around to attempting this and guess what: the window winder will not come off!

I haven't a clue how to remove it. It's the only thing that's holding the panel on right now and I cannot see anything that will unclip it.

There is, however, one bolt either side of the window winder (up left and down right) which I thought wasn't wise to remove without further advice.

I've had my hand inside the double metal wall of the door and felt around the winding mechanism without any luck. Can anyone help me? Has anyone done this before on a Picanto?

I've tried the rag-winder-unclipping method which I read about on some other forum to no avail, so I'm off to my dealership tomorrow. Mainly because I don't know where to buy a "moonclip remover", which is what I guess is holding the winder in place although I can't see it.

you are correct, there is a moonclip on the window winder.you need a very thin and long flathead screw., you position it on the 'inside' of the 3/4 moon and just pop the clip by pushing it out of position. be careful when popping the cli, making sure it doesnt get lost . popping it slowly helps keeping it from flying off.

I honestly can't see that clip anywhere. My dealership said the winder does have a moon clip and they'd remove it for me free of charge, so I'm back there on wednesday.

Thanks for your input though

the moon clip is held flush to the winder itself and not to the door panel. its very flat - thinner than a regular washer. its impossible to see a full view of it - - you would have to look at it from inside the door panel (which is impossible). - you'd have to 'feel it' with a long slender flathead screw., its a bit tricky - bit ive gotten used to it. the door winder's insides may be scratched in the process - but nobody can see them anyway.

Thanks, I went to my dealership and they scratched my door panel quite a bit but the speakers are now in and rocking

I got the wrong sized speakers, so instead of making/buying something to fit them properly I just tied them in place with wires - that's how much I love DIY The fact that the speakers are held in by wire makes no difference though - one of them rattles (comes from inside the speaker) and I can only suppose it's because they're cheap and cheerful!

Just so you know, I bought 5.25" speakers and I'd say the proper size would be 6".

Thanks for all your tips

Performance: I passed my test a month and a half ago so... erm, yeah! It goes forwards and backwards Engine could be a little less noisy.
Rattling: Only thing that rattles is what you have in the compartments (none of them are padded), apart from that it's quite stable at legal UK speeds. I've never been in a CD-5 or any Pride for that matter tho.

Sorry I can't be of much help, anything else you want to know? Had my Picanto Glamour (1.1 manual) for about a month now.
