Default Does it still make sense to buy a Borrego ?

Hello Kia Borrego Forum, I hope this is the right way to ask this question. It's 2012. There are still 09 Boreggos out there. Maybe coming off lease maybe dealers cars etc. They seem like good deals. After three years what is the consensus. How has you experience been; are you having parts availability issues? Would you recommend buying one now?
Thanks in advance for your for your opinion. AM

I was wrestling with the same questions (see my post regarding parts sharing between the Borrego and other models)-I would hope that most Borregos really haven't NEEDED any parts yet aside from little things. I checked my local Napa and they can get brake rotors, pads, oil filters, air filters, and other consumables without a problem, so I thought that was a good sign. Plus, the Borrego is still being produced, just not in the US-it's being sold outside of North America as the Mohave. We need a full sized SUV to accommodate our growing family, so its the right choice for us. Anything we buy will be warrantied (powertrain) until 2019, so I'm not too worried about it. After that if there have been no problems we'll hang onto it until it dies.

Thanks Badfish, Does that mean you already pulled the trigger and bought your Borrego? I've got a dealer chasing me to make a decision. I'm acting like I'm luke warm on it but I actually really like the boreggo. I'm just hoping it isn't a case of pound-puppy love.
I'll report in if I go through with it. Good luck with yours.

I haven't bought one yet but plan to make the purchase by the end of the month. Its just a matter of selling my current vehicle and finding the best deal on a CPO Borrego.

The 5 year/60k warranty is transferrable, but I believe the 10 year/100,000 mile warranty is only for the first buyer. You might get a Kia dealer to sell one as Certified and perhaps get the warranty transferred to you.

There are different warranties the dealer can package with a CPO-some do transfer the balance of the 10/100 warranty some don't. You need to ask, confirm, and get it in writing. Most dealers I've found do offer CPOs with the balance of the 10/100 warranty-it's a pretty good selling point for a car with only 25K miles built in 2009.

My dealer is offering the 10/100 if buy it at the Certified vehicle price. Or with the balance of the factory 6/60 warranty. the car has 3oK so I'd get a 30K/3yr. I'm trying to bargain the price down and still keep the Certified Vehicle warranty.

Bottom line for me is that as much as I still like this Borrego I am squeamish about it having problems down the road and it have crappy resale value if I need to get out of it. So far the Forum members seem to be fairly unanimously happy with this SUV.

I'm doing the same-I'd like to think that buyers have the upper hand in this case since the Borrego is almost a niche market vehicle at this point. They are little known, and the limited production run here in the U.S. is bound to turn a lot of people off. We have our eye on two different Borregos at two different dealers-we're going to wait until the end of the month when they're always more motivated to get vehicles off of the lot.

The warranty is the big selling point for us-as far as resale value, why worry? All vehicles depreciate (the Borrego's resale value was hit hard already by the end of the production run), it's just a fact unless you're buying a rare classic as an investment.

We bought a Borrego V-8 EX in September of 2009. It now has 28,000 miles on it. After having owned a few different SUV's, Jeeps, Nissan, Mercedes, this has them beat as far as reliability, ride, interior space, comfort and fuel mileage. We have not had one problem. We take it in for routine scheduled maintenance and the local dealer experience has been great. The depreciation factor won't matter to us since it's the wife's car and she will keep it forever and the warranty it came with is unbeatable, so we have peace of mind should it ever need a major repair.

Bought our EX V8 as a dealer rep car in May 2010 with 8,000 miles. Have reached the 30,000 mark and have had zero issues or complaints. Change oil, rotate tires and scheduled maintenance. That is all I do and have been extremely pleased. Stickered at $37k new, paid $24,500. We plan on keeping it for the long haul so resale is not an issue. My father bought one too and has the same story. Loves it.
