According to CarTalk or some such car column I read not long ago, they said a dirty filter no longer have an effect on the mileage of a modern car. The reason is that modern cars with electronic fuel injection computes the amount of gas needed so precisely that if the dirty air filter restricts the amount of air get into the engine, the engine simply inject less gas. So a freer flow air filter might increase an engine max power by letting in more air, but it should not effect the efficiency of that engine.

The modification on the muffler to make it flow better on the other hand sir, is said to increase the engine efficiency in the upper range of the rpm. And whether it hurts the engine efficiency on the lower rpm or not is disputed. But you said your Borrego jumps the moment you press the pedal after your muffler mod. Then I assume it did not hurt. How's your in city mileage? Did you note any difference?

Seren I will have my little mule on the hoist today and get your pictures, As to your question on air flow efficiency power so on, I am a licenced mechanic, I have played with trucks cars since I was 10 years old on the farm, and have now turned my love and passion into my lively hood.
I am not a EXPERT, I have been WRONG (ask my exwife) However I have tried just about everthing you can do to a car, Some things voided warranty the second I did it. Others just increase the potential of what is there.
To the statement that a dirty filter doesn't make a differance on engine efficentcy. Yes I do believe that our advances in computer technology will make a engine run, however you will never convince me because I have done the cfm testing that mileage and engine wear will not be increased. For example take your belt wrap it around your chest as tight as you can and run through a dust storm as fast as you can as hard as you can. Did it kill you? Nope were you able to do it? yep was your body happy with you? nope. You get the point.
Now do the same thing without the belt tight on your chest with a properly filtered resporater and do the same thing. Did you notice a differnce?
A engine is just like the human body, it loves clean air, good nurishment,(quality fuel) and clean blood (oil).
Anyway sorry to drag this on I will try to post the pictures to night, As I find most just like to throw shit at each other for coments made like monkeys in a zoo. So I dont like to comment, If you would like to chat through email, you have my address I will be more than happy to share my life lesson on What not to do to void warrenty.
BTW congrates on your new truck may you enjoy it as much as I do mine.
Evan

I measured the paper filter I had in my V6 you might want to take yours out and see if it measures the same. V8 air filter measurement would be appreciated from someone in forum.

Mark anything over 2" is tough for me to measure but that being said yes i will not be a lazy a$$ and measure my filter, I have been designing a cold air kit, But I have cold air taste with a filter budget
I will post tommorow, I have been trying to text my phone pic of my exhaust to seren with no luck. But i have not given up

Did you upgrade your exhaust... ? I think this Borrego would sound really tough with a flowmaster or anything equivalent.
Look forward to seeing your post on your exhaust on the Borrego.

The results are in!!!!!!! YES the V8 borrego filter is 11.5 long and 8.5 wide YYYYAAAAHHH.
Good on you brother for finding this out. I have been working on a cold air kit but the map adaptor is a bugger.
So I will run a k&n filter for now, the increases from just the filter are nice and what was that other thing you put in a tornado can you measure your intake tube so i can see if mine has the same diam? Thanks
If anyone can teach me how to upload pic to the sight from my computer i can post my upgraded exhaust pic

The part for Borrego Tornado is KI-85 for V8 and KI-85 x 2 I don't know what x2 means for the V6 but that is the part number.
Diameter- 7 1/4 inches
Height-1 1/8 inches

I have seen reports that the tornado works and does not work.
I am still a skeptic about the Tornado becuase I have always had it with a K&N Filter.

What I can tell you is this... when I was waiting for my K&N filter I had the original paper filter in the Borrego it started to pill on the back of the filter which only tells me one thing..... the tornado was starting to tear (suck) it apart fiber by fiber. I can only unscientifically and non mechanically say one thing... it must suck more air that is for sure. Now if i had less emissions on the back end I bet I could really increase horsepower and suck some air.

Here is a link about the Tornado.

Tornado Air Management Systems KI-85 - Tornado Air Management Systems - Overview - SummitRacing.com

I beleive you have to install it as close to the air intake as possible closer to the engine. right now I have mine in stalled closer to the air filter... I think after seeing this website I will be moving it closer to the engine.
