Default Rolling backwards in park.

I was Parked in my friends driveway, which as a fairly steep incline, and we were removing a child seat from the back when the vehichle started to roll down the hill. It rolled for about 2 1/2 feet then skidded to a stop on some snow. The parking brake was not on. I've never had this happen in any vehichle before, manual or automatic. Anyone else notice this "problem" in their Kia's?

you could of parked on some ice and just a little bit of movement just caulsed it to move. I had a 91 gmc safari and I parked on a hill, in Park with the parking brake on, ontop of snow and once I got out and opened the sliding door the van started sliding down the hill to it hit some pavement

Ya, thats what I figured at first too when it started moving, but I was beside the suv, and could clearly see the wheel turning. I also called the dealership on this, and took it in to show them. The service manager came out with me, and we were able to get it to happen again, several times. seems to be only roll backwards though, on my way home from work today, I tried it on a hill going forward, and there was no movement at all. The service manager said he had no idea what the problem is and would have to get back to me on it, and also that he's never see any vehichle do that before. so now i'm waiting for a call from them.

it maybe something to do with the parking pin. If thats the case they should replace the transmission

Well, I took it in today and turns out there is no Problem, both times we it happened was on snow, and the front wheels were actually turning, but it's rear wheel drive suv with a limited slip differential, so the rear drive wheel was locked and sliding while the other rear side rolled, and the fronts rolled as well, because they are basically in neutral when parked. Tried it out today on a dry hill and it locked up just fine. So I may be in the market for some good snow tires as opposed to a new tranny. The service guy was so used to Kia's being front wheel drive, it didnt come to him right away.

not all kias are front wheel drive. glad you got it figured out though. how's the 4.6 V8 treating you? i'd love to test drive one of those and see how it compares to the 3.8.

I'm liking it so far. I mostly bought the SUV to tow a travel trailer as well as haul kids around. In the snow, it doesn't perform as well as my old car, a Subaru Forester 2.5 XT, but it's still pretty good. Acceleration if pretty decent as well, merging onto the highway is a breeze. The ride is rougher than a crossover SUV, but this one can also haul 7500lbs behind it, so you have to sacrifice some comfort for that, unless you spend quite a few $$$ more. All in all i like it, and am happy with my purchase.

parking brake would not help in this situation. Parking brake is applied to rear wheels, while borego is rear drive parking brake would not help.
