New in the Borrego family

Hi everyone,

I've brought a '10 Borrego EX V8 with 120k km and for now I'm happy with it.

I have some things to do on it (front suspension, some paint, etc) and I have some questions:

- where do you find yours parts? I need a new tailgate and there is no Borrego in the scrapyards aroud here.
- Mineral or Synthetic oil?
- Do I stick with the 18" or I can go with the 20" for summer?

Thanks for your answers/advices!

Welcome to the forum. I drive a 2009 V8 in Southern California (92,200 mi/148,381 km). You must not be in the United States since the 2009 Borrego was the only year sold here. I'm guessing you are in Canada since you stated you have a Borrego and not a Mohave. I use only synthetic oil and change every 7500 miles (12,070 km). Although the owner’s manual says the transmission has lifetime fluid, I believe it should be changed at 75,000 mi (120,700 km) and every 60,000 mi (80,467 km) thereafter. The ZF transmission filter used on the V8 Borrego is an integral part of the pan, so in order to change the filter; you have to change the pan. I have the original 18” chrome wheels and they are fine for me. Obviously being in Southern California, I don’t need a summer and winter set of tires. I have not been able to locate any aftermarket shocks. My guess is because of the low number of Borregos manufactured, the big shock manufacturers didn't see enough market to tool up for the Borrego. You can buy the Kia stock shocks form the dealer, but they are expensive. I’m sure you can order a tailgate from Kia. It might take a while for it to ship form Korea. I would keep trying the junk yards. I don’t know about the 2010, but my 2009 V8 was the same motor and transmission used in the Hyundai Genesis that year.

Glad to see there are still a few people who are driving the Borregos. I still enjoy mine and have had to do very little to maintain it. Still on original brake rotors and rear pads at 88,000 miles. Replaced front pads a long time ago because of an annoying squeak. Ha.

I keep mine in a garage and change oil with full synthetic every 5-6k miles. After owing it for 7 years I still have not found other comparable SUV vehicles that I like as much as the borrego.

Let us know if you have any questions.

I'm still looking for a .pdf repair guide/manual. If anyone wants to share a copy with a fellow owner, PM me. Thanks.

If you search on car-part.com for a 09' Borrego Lid/Gate in all areas, you'll find quite a few available...prices range from $500 - $850.

I'm at 88,000, still on the stock 18" Winter and Summer...see no reason to mod that, they're perfectly fine, but to each their own.

Hi miliceman,

We are very happy with our '09 Borrego Limited V8 2WD. We have owned it for about 15 months. We purchased it to tow a small travel trailer. It does a great job.

We have picked up a couple of parts from:

KiaPartsNow.com

Wishing you the best,

Dean
