Default 5W20 or 5W30 in 2008 Optima 2.4 liter

Hello,

It's time to change the oil on my 2008 Optima 4 Cyl, however the owners manual and the engine oil cap indicate two different weights of oil. The owners manual says to use 5W30, but the oil cap on the engine specifically indicates "Use 5W20". I asked the dealer and they said "Well, 5W20" is kind of thin.." and really didn't answer my question. I understand a lot of car companies have switched to 5W20 for gas mileage, but I'd rather have protection than 1 or 2% increased MPG. Live in midwest - lowest summer temp here is probably 50 degress - high temps in low 100's. What should I use? Thanks!

Generally speaking,,,,,,, 5W-20 is an excellent choice for this engine. The service manuals even suggest it with 5W-30 generally being a second choice.

Finally,

If you're using a conventional oil where you'd probably change oil twice a year or more. Use 5W-30 for the summer if you're worried and 5W-20 for the winter. Simple to schedule.

To be frank the 5W-20 myths are unfounded. Cold start protection is key.
