Question Ticking noise @ cold start

Every morning when I start the engine, I'm earing a "ticking" noise from the engine. But as soon as the engine goes down to about 1000 RPM, the "ticking" stops.

Discharge hydraulic lifters ?? or normal sound of the injector's in cold start mode. ??

Anybody else notice that...

2.4L? If so, its very normal. The newer 2.4's seem to have a bit of a tick to them.

How about the 2.0 started after 4 hrs with outside temp at 80degF?

I seem to hear a similar valve ticking to my old 96 cavalier.? Forte EX has 600km's on it.

That's no good at all! Anyone else having this problem? I had a 96 Cobra once that ticked like a madman and I couldn't stand it.

The dealership told me that it was just fine, normal noise for a Kia. Imagine... So I had to talk with the general manager and they're gonna take a second look next time. I have to go back for the wheel bearing recall.

Sounds Like Hydrolic Lifters Bleeding Down...sportages Are Bad With It Too. Every Caddy Cts We Have Come Through Tics Too....but Is The Purge Valve Actuating.

I was thinking about one or more hydraulic lifters loosing oil over night, too. I had a look on kiatechinfo.com and the 2.4 are not equipped with hydraulic lifters but with MLA(Mechanical Lash Adjuster). It's only a metal spacer. The adjustment is done measuring the lash and installing a new MLA with the correct tickness... So the ticking noise should be normal since the oil has to get between the valve stem and the mla and in cold start situation much of the oil went back in the oil pan.

I bet the price of one MLA is mush mush cheaper compare to a regular hydraulic lifter. I'm starting to see where Kia cut corners to be competitive in the compact market.
