Default Help please, fan motor resistor

Hello Kia folks, new member here but not new to online car forums.

My girlfriend has a 2001 Kia Spectra. Recently, her A/C stopped working, just in time for the South Carolina summer.

The local shop told her that the blower motor resistor was bad and quoted her $200+change to replace it. After seeing the part, I can't imagine that it would be too difficult to replace.

I just need some guidance in locating a replacement part for a reasonable price and maybe some quick tips for the install?

Thanks in advance for any help.

Dave

first question - does the blower work on any speed? If it works ONLY on the highest - than more than likely the blower motor resistor is faulty.
Replacement (depending on the car/design) is easy, or easy but time consuming.
It is located nearby the blower itself. Blower is probably under the glove compartment.
Remove 3-5 screws, disconnect, remove, put a new one, connect, tighten screws and you are done.
The resistor costs from 20-50.

PLP, thanks for the response.

The blower doesn't work on any speed. When the A/C is turned on, you can hear the compressor power up, but the fan doesn't blow at all.

Like I said, the local shop told her it was the resistor, they even removed the old one for her. I just can't see spending over $200.00 in parts and labor for a part that appears to be "plug and play".

Any suggestions on where to purchase the replacement?

Thanks again.

if the blower doesn't work at all, it's not the resistor. if the resistor was bad, it would only work on high and maybe 1 or two speeds. sounds like they were taking you for a ride. i think it sounds like you need to get a second opinion and have someone who knows what they're doing with a multimeter to check it out.

If so, I know it may sound stupid, but did you check fuses?
