Sulfur Odor

I'm not sure if anyone else has this problem but my 04 Spectra puts off a nasty sulfur smell from the exhaust. Now someone once told me that if you have a sulfur smell it's most like caused by a dirty cat. If this is true then how do I resolve this problem? Oh and btw, my car has nearly 23k miles on it so it's not a matter of being a new car. Can someone offer me some help?
