Thumbs up 2008 KIA Spectra - My Review and Documentation 900 miles per week

Hello.

This posting was created for documenting my experience with my 2008 KIA Spectra. I purchased my KIA Spectra LX on 1/11/2008 with only 21 miles on it, not 21 thousand, just 21 miles. I did a lot of research and it seems like so many people are saying how bad KIA is, and won't give them a chance. Well, so far I am more than pleased with this vehicle for the price. I have heard from multiple people KIA has come a long way in the past few years. Since I drive on average 900 miles per week, I figured would be a good test to see how KIA really sizes up, and hopefully make a fool out of anyone else who says KIA is such a bad company.

I plan on updating this forum with with the following information:
Gas Mileage (based off highway)
Vehicle Performance
Current Miles Driven
Maintenance and Repairs in detail

If you have anything to add and want to share your experience, go right ahead.

Currently I have already driven 480 miles since I purchased the car on 1/11/2008, so far no problems whatsoever, awesome car.

About my car:

Spectra
2008
Manual Transmission
LX

Well, I'll update more at another time!

I have owned this car for one week, and have put on 982 miles. I have absolutely no complaints about this 2008 KIA Spectra. Here in Minnesota it is currently 10 degrees below zero, the car sits out in my front yard with no protection from the wind, nor do I have a block heater. The car starts with no problem after sitting for 10 hours in this harsh weather within 3 seconds of cranking. Many people I know could not start their Dodge vehicles, but I was able to start this car with no issues! Way to go KIA!

GEEZ, Shaun!

Or, as they say up in your neck of the woods, Ya der hey, dat's a lotta miles for dat ting, but look out for da iron moss, it'll get cha!

And, what was that Groucho Marx line? "I like my cigar, too, but I take it out every now and then."
You should get out of that thing and take a break every now and then, eh?
And don't forget your touque, you don't want to get your brain froze.

'07 2,347 miles - 12/30/2007 purchase date

I commute 64 miles a day so I average just over 300 miles commuting alone. Absolutely love my Spectra. I drove a '91 CRX Xi prior - had a little more pep but by now nothing worked on it. No air - no heat - no radio - fun to drive till I broke a connecting rod.

The only "Issue" other than the parking light thing I have seen is an issue with the "Check" warning light coming on. That has something to do with the speed sensors according to the service guys at my local Kia dealer. That the sensors are on each wheel and if one gets spins too much the check light comes on. He said if it doesn't go out in a couple of drive cycles to worry then. Being a man - it is very hard for me to ignore a "Check" light.

I bought my 07 Spectra LX for the exact same reason. I bought mine in September 07 and have since put 12,900 on the car. So far no problems at all. For daily commuting the car is wonderful. Gas mileage is good.... 34-36 MPG.... roomy.... and reliable. Only problem I have had was the vibration through the steering wheel. In which a tire rotation and balance helped. I bought my Kia because friends of mine own Kias and have proven to be very reliable. Very nice car!

i just got mine 4 days ago and already close to 450 miles. I love it but does make a click, crack crack noise on the left side. I think it might be the strut bearing, or something with the brake, since is only at low speed. ALso the alignment is not set right and pulls left.

dang... get that looked at.

And, if you have an accurate tire gauge, check all 4 tires. I've found these are sensitive to different tire pressures, esp. between the fronts.

Maybe time for a recheck of the PDI (pre-delievery inspection). Mine came with WILDLY different tire pressures, the goofs.

Talk to the service writer and/or manager, that shouldn't have made it past PDI. Kia doesn't LIKE warranty claims, and any good dealership (any brand) should have caught that before it left the lot.
