Default Struts Clunking?

I have a 2004.5 Kia Spectra

The front-end clunks like a basterd over bumps... I don't see any leakage from the struts, everything seems tight and I don't any busted ball joints or bushings... so it's hard to determine where the clunking is coming from.

How common are these struts too fail.. car has like 70k miles..

Any other common clunking that just common to kia spectras?

At that mileage you should start thinking about replacing the struts anyways.

Yes you should. Face it, it is a 2004.5 anyway right. It is old. You need to upgrade your ride to a 2008 anyway. I hear teh new 2008 Ford Focus is getting some really great deals this time of year. Perfect car for you too. And its got SYNCH! All you need.

04.5 being old? LOL
My 89 prelude runs and drives like a new car. I have had it for 2 years problem free. If you do the proper maint. it doens't matter how old a car is. Struts are a wear and tear item.

it may also be the sway bar links, my 03 gsx was doing the same thing, these were replaced and it is gone. much cheaper than the struts as well. apparently very common on these cars...

do not get a focus... i just got rid of mine... an 06... at 17k the brakes were shot, at 12k the tires was bs because they will wear out bad in the back... huge problems with suspension and clonking, engine was in twice for not starting. it is POS. My mom has a mazda with the same 2.0 and hers starts to get lound engine wise, mine knocks. changed twice wheel bearing on the right end corner, brakes do not work right in the back and squeek. the new focus is the same thing, but look different.

sorry for what happened but American cars are not known for reliability.

Everyone missed my point. It had nothing to do with a Ford Focus and Sync. Nor the fact that the car was a 2004.5 Spectra needing struts or JUST upper mounting plates and bearings at 70,000. It had totally to do with his statement about speed bumps and getting rid of it, after years of being ridden hard and put away wet. I merely agreed with him and his mind set to get rid of it, if it was going to cost him struts. And away from us. Sorta invoking OUR peace of mind clause here.
