Default Parking Lights off? '07 Spectra5

I have had my new Spectra5 a week. I could have sworn that even though I left the headlights on, they shut off as soon as I shut off the ignition. Today I looked out my window and noticed the parking lights were on and when I peeked in all the instrument lights were on, too. When I got in the vehicle, only turning the headlights completely off turned off the parking lights.

Is there another switch I'm not seeing? I looked in the manual and noticed some Spectras have an auto-headlight position, mine does not. Was I hallucinating?

Yes as soon as you shut the car off the headlights will turn off. When you looked out your window and saw the parking lights on were the keys in the ignition? If your lights are in the on postion putting your keys in the ignition will turn your parking lights and cluster lights on. My 05 Spectra does the same thing.

Thats just weird if you parking lights were on and the keys were not in the ignition. Did you happen to turn you lights to the on positon after you shut the car off??

The way it works in my Rio is if I leave the lights on, when I kill the engine, the headlights go out but the parking lights stay on. I can pull the key and the parking lights STILL stay on.

It's not until I open a door that the parking lights go out. This includes the instrument lights.

If that's what it's doing, then it's fine.

But, if your lights are staying on even after key removal AND opening a door, then you have an issue...

Oh yeah, with mine, and even tho it mentions it in the owners manual, I can NOT get my headlights on with out the key in.

It says what I stated about the parking lights above, but also states that if you want headlights with the key out, to cycle the light switch an additional time and that will turn on the headlights.

Nope, not mine. No key=no headlights...

My 06 spec5 did the same thing a few days ago, after messing with it I found out that I had accidently hit the alarm button in my pocket on then off.

Okay, I've figured it out. It has to do with *when* the lights were turned on. I can leave the headlight switch in the "on" postion while the engine is running, shut off the engine, lock ignition, lock the doors....headlights and parking lights are off.

or......

Have ignition in "ACC" position, maybe even "on", but not running, *then* turn on Headlights, lock ignition, lock doors......parking lights are on.

As Lyle9076 said.

we've had this issue several times with our kia spectra5 and i will test if our results are the same as yours.

the strange thing for us though was that i thought it happen sometimes when we had never even fiddled with the lights- just leaving them in the on position always. but maybe every time it happened we had turned the lights on while the key was in ignition was the car wasn't yet running.

anyway, thanks for following up with your information and i'll be testing this,
