I had this same issue. With me it had to do with the sequence of events around the door(s). If I leave the lights in the "Auto" position - turn the car off and remove the key the lights go out when I shut off the engine - parking lights go out when I open the door to exit. Now, if I open the door - then turn the key off everything goes off - but I have come out the next morning to find my parking lights have been on.

I had this problem too... I just bought mine about a month ago, and I left the lights on all the time.... The first night, my friend who is a local police officer drove by and told me my parking lights were on.... So I went out and turned off the lights by the switch. The next night, I turned on the lights after I started the car.... I drove it to work, left the lights on, and when I opened the door the lights went off... when I went to go home, put my key in the ignition, the lights went on without me having to turn the ignition on. I went home, parked for the night and left the light switch in the on position, the lights were off when I went inside for the night... I came out the next morning, and ALL my lights were on... my parking lights, headlights, and tail lights.... Has anyone had ALL your lights on in the morning? I mean when I went inside for the night, all my lights were off, and I made sure of it by looking back before I locked the door...
This happened 2 nights in a row, and now I have to turn my lights off and on everytime I get in and out of the car...
Thank goodness for the Internet and the guys at Kia-Forums. This is exactly the issue I have been fighting with for weeks, and I can't get a straight answer out of anyone at Kia. Here's the deal:
1) Spectra 2007 EX
2) At night, turn on lights. When parked, turn off ignition with the light switch in on position.
3) Open door and all lights turn off, even while the switch is in on position. NO bell alarm indicator..
4) Hours later .... parking lights will turn on by themselves: Brake lights and Turn lights.
5) Next morning, call someone for a jumpstart.
A Kia dealership has looked at this three times, even replaced a part, and I spoke with Kia's corporate telephone support. They are trying to say this is normal, without coming out and saying it. They keep telling me to "just remember and turn off the lights". Well, you know, at night, it's dark and you can't see the light switch! Plus, I looked in the owner's manual which specifically says there is a "Battery Saver Feature" on the lights, for when they are left on.
I am having a lot of trouble getting someone to fix this issue. What is everyone else doing? Do you really always remember to turn off the lights? I use other vehicles which either have an indicator or an auto-shutoff, so I do often forget about shutting off the lights in this vehicle. This issue is making me lose confidence in the vehicle's dependability.

I'm with you 100% that the dealer should fix the problem. This is a specific documented feature of the car, and as such, it should work.
Now that said...come on. "Do you really always remember to turn off the lights?" You can't possibly be serious . People have been remembering to turn off their own lights for about 70 years now. I haven't ever trusted auto-off lights because the benefit of using them as a habit (none, really) are vastly outweighed by the possibility of the feature failing and killing the battery.
hold on a mo, does this mean i can switch off the lights in the house too, when i go to bed????, lol, after all the work kia has gone into to make a lightswitch with the words "on and "off" on it , as with every other car maker it seems, are folks really that lazy they dont seem to have the energy or remember where the switch is even in the dark???, just think, its got to be within hands reach, lol
C'mon! It's not like the lights are actually illuminated, when the switch is left on. You make it sound like I am walking away from the vehicle while it is lit up like a Christmas tree... The car is dark and there is no indication that the switch is in the on position, other than looking at the switch itself - which is difficult at night. Yeah, I can manually twist the knob every time or maybe I can put a big sign reminding me to double check, but it's pretty annoying for something that is a non-issue in every other modern car. The 1970's phoned -- they want their annoying vehicle interiors back.

The indication that it's on is that you haven't turned it off yet. Is this really that difficult to remember? I'm amazed that we're even having this conversation...

Me, too. You're not even having this issue, right? I am hoping to hear from other 2007 Spectra owners who are having to jumpstart their vehicles over this issue.
