Hello,
I own the 2004.5 kia spectra ex. I want to put some vinyl carbon fiber wanna be graphics on the center console/frame that goes around all the controls radio etc. I saw someone on this forum who did it, and it looked really cool. I can't find their link though. How can I safely get this off. Are there any electronics attached to the back of it, etc. I am afraid to damage ANYTHING in my beloved car. Please advise me. Also, do you think it would be a bad idea?
Stupid question: I was wondering if I ever have to change my battery, will this affect the car in any way? Someone told me that I will need to reproagram the radio, and get a code to get it to work again. I need facts not b.s., so i am checking with people who might have that info.
Help would be much appreciated
thanks.
When you change the battery you will need to set your clock again and put back in presets that you had but other than that nothing else should be affected nor should you need a code of some source.
There should be no wiring attached to these items. Your center console will pull out by removing a few bolts through the bottom. You may have to pull up a little rubber liner in there, but it's probably not glued down.
As for the trim around the radio and what not, that's held in with little toothy things. You can remove it by using a thin (non metal) tool, such as a cheap putty knift, the yellow plastic type, from Home Depot. Pry gently and you should have no problems.
Do I think it's a bad idea? Yes.
And if you just do a quick batt. swap, you wont have to enter radio codes. They radio will "forget" what vehicle it's in if the batt is out for too long...around 5 min...and then you'll have to enter the code.
If you bought the car new, the radio codes should have been given to you. If not, a quick trip to the dealer to sweet- talk one of the employees there will fix you right up.
Your radio will forget the preset staions, and your clock will have to be reset, but no, there are no secret codes to get your radio to work again if you do that. I have replaced countless stereos in countless Kias, and never once have I had to program a code into it. The only thing on a Kia that needs a code is your chipped key, which the dealership can get by calling the sevice line. And you need a scan tool to do that. Hope this helps
