My mother purchased a NEW kia Spectra in 2002. Last month, her car was backed into in a parking lot; the result was a deep scratch in the bumper. She took it to 2 body shops for an estimate. .She was shocked when she was told by BOTH auto repair technicians that her bumpers both front and back were pitting. Why were they pitting? Both technicians agreed that the bumpers did not have the finished coat of paint. Both bumpers were dull, in comparison to the paint on the rest of the car. It is not something my mother had ever noticed. She went back to the dealer and pointed out the problem. The dealer then told her he was going to take the VIN # of the car and trace it back to the Korea. I have no idea how that was supposed to rectify the problem. A few weeks went by and she received a response. The dealer is washing his hands of it, because he was not the owner of the dealership when my mother bought her car. Then he gave her the name of an auto body shop that could do the work for her. The head office in Toronto wrote to my mother and said, the paint warranty was for 2 years, and her car is now 4 years old. The head office also suggested that maybe the dealership still has some “good will” money. Apparently they do not, and she’s not asking for good will, or a favor, she wants them to stand behind their product and give her what she should have had when she purchased a new car.

I don't really see a problem with kia not doing anything about it. The car is 4 years old, things happen to all cars no matter how safe you try to save them from door dings or people hitting you. Obviously there not that dull if your mother has never noticed it in 4 years. One thing you gotta remember if its a plastic bumper the paint well always be a little bit duller then the rest of the car, and how do they know the car has been taken care of on the outside. Like not letting the salt sit on the car for a long time. Or parking out side in the sun for a long period of time. What colour is the car??

Raven, in kATHERINE001's defense, I first saw it posted in the Canada forum and made the suggestion that it be posted here since it is specific to the Spectra. I don't know about the other of the three times, though.

Sorry about posting more than once, I’m new here. I thought I went to a different forum where I might get more of a feedback. I mistakenly posted here again.
My mother is 78 years old, and she did not notice that the bumpers were dull in comparison to the rest of the car. The dealer knows the car has been well taken care of. It’s always brought to the dealer for its regular maintenance, and it’s immaculate, with the exception of the bumpers. The car is parked, outdoors, right beside my father’s Kia Magenta. However the bumpers on his car are fine, his car has the finished coat of paint on the bumpers.
The problem is not that the bumpers are dull, the dullness is just a result of Kia not applying the finish coat of paint to the bumpers, and the end result of that is the bumpers are now pitting.
The defect, which is the lack of primer surfacer occurred at the time the vehicle was manufactured, however at that point, it was unnoticeable. The defect was latent and became patent when the paint began to pit. All we want is for Kia to do the right thing. Correct the mistake that was made at the time of manufacturing.

There is a rule about multiple postings of the same thing. It's aimed at curbing spammers and trolls.
You're not the first person who accidentally posted in the wrong forum and then fixed the problem by reposting where you'd be more likely to get an answer. So, don't sweat it.
