Have a 2002 Kia Spectra 1.8 Liter Automatic. Am completely impressed with the power and acceleration of this car. I put Iridium spark plugs in on suggestion of a friend after complaining of inadequate gas mileage. 25, 26, at most 27. The acceleration of the car increased greatly. Unlike my 1987 Ford Escort, 1.9 Liter, when people played their silly rush games getting on the freeway and tailgating and all the other stupid things they do where I needed some power I was helpless. This car does the trick getting out of people's way.
As many know we have insane drivers in Arizona. Back to my point is that after putting those Iridium plugs in the acceleration was much greater(lready good), but no increase in gas mileage. So I did what any(reasonable?) person would do and added an expensive fuel system cleaner after filling the tank. Before I drove it 100 miles the check engine light came on and stays on for the first time since I got the car in Oct. of 2004. Now what the heck could this be? I am taking it in Monday. I quit driving it since it happened Saturday but I had to drive it twenty miles home from work and it doesn't miss or no loss of power or any jerking or engine odor. Nothing!
Try and reset the computer. Just take the negative terminal off the battery and turn on the lights, then the ecu is reset. if it comes back on get it scanned.
I suspect it the iridium plugs. Some have said the car dont like them.

I did what you said. That's what it was. My buddy came over who does mechanic work and ran the codes and it is clear now. I liken it maybe to shutting a computer down by the main plug and let it vent all the programs in the whole system. Something gave because the light went off. I just put air in the tires. Shamefully low. That certainly didn't help the gas mileage. I'll keep that in mind about the Iridium plugs. It would be a shame though if they did not actually help the gas mileage for as much as they cost. But then, as you said, maybe this particular vehicle doesn't care for them.
