blower motor resistor connections

hello all.

i have been having problems with my blower motor resistor and after replacing a melted one with a brand new one i re wired it with after market wiring as the stock wire was melted at the connectors.

i used the wrong gauge wire. i used a 16 gauge wire and eventually the butt connectors started to turn black from over heating. and then at the connections into the resistor the connections were also turning black and starting to melt. so im guessing it was arching between the connections as it was not covered with any kind of tape or shrink wrap.

so i have since rewired once more with 12 gauge wiring and similar butt connectors. my only problem now is that when i connect it i am getting no bower speed. and the only sound i hear is when i switch it into the off position and i get a rattling sound.

so i was wandering if anybody knows what order the wries should go in and maybe if there is anything else i should be looking for.

and i apologies for the bad capitalization... trying to hurry and get this out there before the AZ heat hits.

We need to know what year KIA (Spectra) you have...

There are 3 model years
Pre- 2004.5
Post 2004..5
and a change in 2006 and later...

Some models use a dropping resistor and the last Spectras used a FET (field effect transistor)... The wiring IS different...
I have diagrams for both...

thank you mia kia. but i was actually hoping for a picture or something at the connections of the resistor, or if anybody knows what post the red with black stripe wire connects to and the black and green wires as well.

i have tried multiple combinations but dont seem to find the right one.
