There are some discussions going on in forums here in Denmark. It seems that Kia has just introduced a new software update for the CRDI engines, implemented when the car is at service.
The upgrade leads to weaker performance in the range 1900-2700 rpms. Apparently this update has been introduced by Kia because too many turbos have malfunctioned.
Important to say that this is still rumours from private owners and has not been officially confirmed by Kia yet, but have any of you heard of the same thing in other countries?
It's probably all the cars with tuning boxes fitted that are blowing their turbo's. I would think that KIA are monitoring the "Tuning box" thread with great interest.
i blew up my turbo last year, i had no tunning box!
car was still under warranty!
i guessed i was not the only one with the same problem because they have told me that Kia had already started to create a new turbo, which was installed in my car recently after bringing him in.
i do not know if they changed the software with it, but it is possible
Which engine are we talking about here, U1 or U2? I know there were problems with the turbo on the U1 engine which would develop a low pitched whistle like a police car siren. The U2 has a new turbo so I would hope that Kia have learned by their mistakes.
Im the one who posted the issue about the new software in my Kia ceed,
Since yesterday when I post it, there have been a number of other ceed owners who claims that ther car are having the same problem after having this update made to ther car.
We are all having the old motor U1.
It´s a big issue because the update result in a huge loss of power in the range where this engine normally preforme it´s best.
This is parently a brand new update but Im sure that within a short time there will be a storm of complaints from ceed owners acros the world.
Same information from Polish owners. We also having that problem with new soft. It would be good to run dyno before and after new soft to have some "hard" data. After that we can start make complains to KIA that car which we have is not up to the buying specification. In official TSB there is information for dealers that they have obligation to reprogram all cars which will come for maintenance service.
I suspect that Kia have been careful to keep the maximum power and torque values so that they don't break the spec. Just flattening the curve so that the power no longer comes where it's useful. I can't remember the old U1 curve, but the U2 makes a selling point of 90% of the power being available from 1500 rpm. Driving as I do, the range from just under 2000 rpm to about 3000 is just where I need it as I usually change gear at around 2000 unless I'm wanting to do something that needs power (climb a steep hill or overtake). I would guess that I'm not alone.
I can now ad that the danish institute FDM has taken contact to Kia denmark, and the response was: They will present documentation witch confirm that our cars preform resording to spec. They claim that our cars had a higher HK/tork from start than they was suppose to have.
This dosen´t change the fact, that the feeling we have when driving our cars is a loos of power witch is unacceptable in my world.
Same thing happened to me, I drove my car to service because i wanted to get my doors fixed and after i picked my car i noticed that it`s not the same. Went back to the dealer and they told me that they made some software upgrade. I would call it a downgrade. Software is caled 143 something.
