Default Car tax in UK

Just received the renewal form for car tax for my Ceed SW 1.6crdi. £120.00 for 12 months or £66.00 for 6 months. I remembered hearing on the forum that this would be going down next year so I have just checked on Road tax - Parker's next year 12 months will be £90.00 and 6 months £49.50. If I just take out 6 months now it will save me a tenner. Every little helps.

Sounds like they must have changed the emmisions on the Ceed's.
How old is yours?

My Ceed GS 1.6CRDi is now 3 weeks old, and 1 years tax was £35 !!!

If the Cee'd 1.6CRDI diesel was registered after 3rd July 2008 then road tax is £35. If before that date it will be £120 falling to £90 in April 2009.

I can`t wait, will be so nice to have a reasonably priced years Tax.....my old 2.2 would have been in the £300+ pound bracket.

I dont agree with the pricing system.

The same car same engine has 2 different tax levels by just tinkering with the mapping, and getting to run really lean at low revs.

After buying it you can adjust mapping and still pollute as much if not more but still pay less tax... what a stupid system!!!!!!!!

You can have the older version remmapped to run the same as the jul 08 version but still pay more tax!!!!!!!!!!

It's a massive difference in tax price between the cars just cos one was made perhaps a month before the other!
To make it fair, the government should introduce a test, allowing people to have their cars tweaked down to the right level. If it passes, then it get the cheaper tax bracket certificate.

Wait a minute, they test for emissions during the MOT........!
Makes you think eh...
