Whistling turbo?

Hi all

I don't know if this is a problem or to be expected. My car (1.6 CRDi) has now covered just over 30,000 miles and the turbo (at least that's what I think it is) seems to 'whistling/whining'. This happens on acceleration only. When I'm at a steady pace and only putting my foot on the accelerator to maintain my speed there is no sound. Only when accelerating does this occur. Sometimes its so noticeable I think there is an emergency vehicle with a siren somewhere near. It seems more noticeable on some days than others. I'm not noticing any performance drop - excellent mpg and acceleration is fine. I'm wondering whether this is worth getting the dealership to look at or whether it's just 'one of those things'. I've had a turbo'd car before and that did make some noise but nothing like this. It's not very loud but is at a volume where it can be heard. My wife even commented on it the other day and described it as 'like the engine is singing'. Any thoughts on this?

I've never heard a (diesel) turbo that didn't whistle. Once you'd noticed it you always heard it (kinda like the wire you could always see on Sony Trinitron monitors / TVs). Mine always makes me think there is a cop car nearby with siren going but it's always the turbo whistling.

Mine 2.0 CRDI just passed 12.000 km and it started to whistle about 2000km ago. I'm 110% sure it didn't whistle before...

You just didn't hear it before. If you turbo doesn't whistle either check your hearing or check your car

am i the only person that thinks a whistleing turbo sounds cool, like a meaty tuned up car.....or is it the bad kind of whisteling thats more of a screetch cause if it is get it looked at lol
