Default Radio/cd not working then a flat battery.....

Hi all,

In the UK and have a 2007 1.6GS. Last week the radio/cd player stopped working after changing a cd. Told my Kia dealer who suggested disconnecting and re-connecting the battery! Very helpful - not, especially if dealer's are aware of problems with the radio/cd player. Suffice to say I didn't take advice.

A few days later the car would not start - a flat battery no less. A friend jump started it and it fired up straight away and the radio/cd player started working again! I've read through most threads relating to problems with the radio/cd player/starting/flat batteries and now wonder if anyone else has suffered from this particular problem, as I suspect that the non-working radio/cd may well have been the reason why the battery became flat, judging from previous threads.

Does anyone know if Kia have actually issued a recall or fix for this problem and if so, is my Kia dealer going to be able/willing to sort this problem under warranty?

Hope reporting this helps other owner's too.

Cheers.

Pretty sure the duff radio aspect is a known about problem - mine was changed in late 2007, although I didn't suffer the flat battery symptom. If you do get the radio changed make sure you remove any CD(s) that might be in it; I didn't and the wife did her nut!

Take it to the dealers, tell him the radio is dead and explain about the battery. Might be worth printing off a few postings from here. Don't take no for an answer.

Thanks Tim.

The car had it's first service today and all of the problems were mentioned. Basically the dealer said that Kia has sent instructions out that a 're-set' is carried out on suspect radios first - this radio now being one, and this was carried out today. The garage also said they doubted the radio was the cause of the dead battery - time will tell, now that the re-set has been carried out.

If things go wrong again then the car will be back to the dealer of course.

I'll up-date here as and when. Thanks again.
