After a round trip of 60 miles today I parked my 1.6 CRDi LS (almost 3.000 miles on the clock) outside mother-in-law's house today. An hour and a half later my cee'd refused to start after 5 attempts. The battery was fully charged and the fuel tank was half full. I rang the RAC and waited for help. Meanwhile, after 10 minutes or so, I tried once more and the car started first time! I rang the RAC to cancel the call out. Has anyone had such an experience with their car?

Hot spot?
Is this a case of possible electro magnetic interference? Have heard people having problems with other modern kit with this problem at hot spots. Could be a good excuse for keeping away from the out law!!
The dealer may pick something up by plugging in the test / fault finding read out.
I have only 300miles on my CRDI ls sw would be interested to hear the result of any test.
this surely sounds like your key wasn't recognized by car's electronics. check out the manual, there is a section describing possible interferences between the two.
I saw once this happening on a clio, turns out the key was damaged and the engine refused to start.
This has happened to me on my Nissan a few years agoin similar circumstances to you. On my way to work, stopped outside the bank for some cash, car wouldn't start. Phoned breakdown service and whilst waiting, about five or ten minutes later, tried starting again and away it went. Reported it to dealer next time it was in for a service and they found details of the failure to start but not the reason. They just told me I would have to wait until it developed. Fortunately, it hasn't happened again.
Exactly, starter spinning but engine won't engage. This is how engine blockade works, you spin it until battery runs flat, but nothing happens. Depending on the engine, ECU doesn't fire the spark, or shuts off the fuel pump etc, blocking the engine.
Keep the key clean, make sure there are no bulky metallic objects near ignition (key chain or something), keep away from strong radio wave sources... Still, it can happen again without any apparent reason.
This is the price we pay since our cars became so dependent on elecronics.
Here's a good one: Make sure your Flip-Key is Folded OUT all the way. I Tried to start our ladys Cee'd a few times with the key half folded, and it refused. The Immobilizer is fairly sensitive. (i know what your thinking, why did i half-fold the key to start it? no idea...!)
The non-starting happened once again at the (almost) identical place. This time I noticed, thanks to Wishy, that the key warning light didn't light up. So I was prepared and did not attempt to start the car but took the key out, waited a minute, inserted the key and "Hey Presto" the key light came on and the engine roared into life!
On taking in to my local dealer a technician could not diagnose any fault with the car. The battery was fully charged and everthing was OK. I was told to use my spare key and carry both keys with me in case the car refused to start with one key, then I could try the other, and hopefully it would!
In future I am keeping a close watch for the key light when starting the car. Unfortunately this has made me (and my wife) rather obsessive about the key light. Besides, we both find difficulty starting the car with fingers crossed!
