Noticed the extended travel when I first got it.

Six clicks from off to fully on and it holds really well. It's had its first service but the hand brake hasn't been touched as far as I can tell, but I have no issues.

I also needed 8-10 clicks (Almost max) when I got the car. I complained and they adjusted it to 3-4 clicks as it should be. Seems like they have rationalized the build process and left this step out at the factory.

Mine is the same about 6-7 clicks, i will ask the garage if this is normal when i next go to see them, i think it would fail an MOT if it was due, MOT states 3-4 click when fully engaged

I'm convinced mine never actually fully engages despite being at the end of its travel - no more clicks left it hits a physical stop.

3-4 clicks on mine, as delivered.
Stops the engine dead if I forget it.

My SW has done over 4000 miles now and I noticed the handbrake problem at about 3000. My driveway is on a slope and on a couple of occasions the car started to roll back after I had applied the handbrake and taken my foot of the brakes.
I spoke to the dealer and was told to 'bring it in' if the problem persists.
I have got used to the requirement for a harder pull now and all is well, but it is reassuring to know that it seems to be a general problem. That's the true value of these forums.

I checked my one (i realised straight away that it is different then other cars),5 clicks go up very easy and it doesn't hold the car, then 6'th,7'th clicks start holding but you realy need 8'th for a strong grip.I can go up another 2 clicks but for the last one you need a realy strong pull which is not necessary anyway.

Wink

I'll be doing a DIY on how to tune the handbrake. (Haven't got my digital camera here)

I was told by my mechanic, that the hand brake is self-adjusting. That actually means, that you must excercise your hand brake lever regularly and preferably while pumping the brake pedal simultaneously. You can actually get the hand brake to catch and hold at the first click, but it takes a lot of movement of the hand brake lever to achieve that. If you move the lever 10 to 15 times once a week, your hand brake should catch at the 3d to 4th click, which to me is quite satisfactory, as it holds the car at even very steep hills. Try it

And - use that hand brake as often as possible. That might even work so that you won't have to excercise your hand brake lever and biceps nearly so often as else
