Default Fuel Consumption

I have had my 1.4 petrol Ceed since January and am very pleased with the car.

The only concern I have is the fuel consumption which is averaging 34 mpg over my first 1600 miles half of which was on long runs. I am a steady driver and partly chose the car as it came out third in the government CO2 guide for small family cars.

The dealer says it still needs to loosen up and after 2500 miles it should pick up. Is this the pattern any other 1.4 owners have experienced ?

Nick 11,i passed 6000 km or 4000 miles and the fuel consumption is the same since i bought my ceed.In the city cons. is 8.0-8.5 litres on 100km,on open road 6-7 l/100km.I think that for a car that weights 1.3 tones this is reasonable fuel consumption.Check other cars with 1.4l and around 109hp and you will see that ceed is better on that issue.

Moi Atti, perhaps more additives are used in your diesel, since Oulu is a bit colder than the rest of the world and more additives means less milage. On the other hand, the colder the intake air to the engine is the higher milage what a contradicting world we live in...

...and relative. I'm very happy if I compare to my previous 1.6 petrol, which was drinking ~9 in winter. Let's see what the summer will bring

I have cut my fuel consumption in half since I bought the ceed. When I drive to work, 8km one way I get 6l/100km and 4.4l/100km during long trips. I had an Audi A6 Avant with a V6 petrol before and that monster averaged 1.3l/100km commuting to work.
