Cars going in today for a new gear shift gaiter and a 'sensor fan assy' to supposedly fix the climate issues - yeah, right!

I don't think the system is up to the job, full stop.

Even set to LO in the moderately warm conditions we've been enjoying lately, it doesn't feel as though it's achieving better than low 20's over a thirty minute journey, and nowhere near as efficient as a piece of VAG kit.

Tim please come back and let us know if any improvement, but do you know the details, is it the sensor in the dashboard or a fan or both together?

To answer Bunker, my car when set to LO produces loads of cold air, it is just the controlling of it when set to auto CC that seems to be the problem, it switches off the cold air/fan too early.

Possible result on the Climate Control issues - took car in today for the above and driving home, 25-odd miles, 19 degrees OAT and the CC set at 19 most of the way and it was blowing slightly chilled air. This was in marked contrast to the trip to work / dealer where OAT was 15 and CC was set at 15.5 and blowing mildly warm air. Car was getting decidedly warm, almost to the point of discomfort and needing the thing setting to Lo with a bit of manual fan control. OK so it's only 1 journey, I don't think I'm in it tomorrow but first impressions are favourable. Quite what exactly they replaced I don't know but once I'm sure it is actually better or fixed, I'll make a point of asking and reporting back here.
The bad news is they must have disconnected the battery cos my average mpg was zero'd from the mornings trip and on the way home it was terrible. I had to really try to get 48.9 when I had been managing 55+ without too much trying. Perhaps working aircon does make a lot of difference!

Not much help but the little grill on the dash has changed direction - now the slats are almost vertical whereas before they were at much more of an angle!! Like I said, I'll see how it feels over the next few days and into next week if it really does seem better and then find out what they did. I forgot to ask cos I was in heck of a rush when I collected the car, and besides the service guy isn't exactly Mr Forthcoming anyway.

Hmmm, another day, another..... thought that despite yesterdays positive feelings about it all I now think it's no different. 14 outside and with the CC set at 15.5 it was still blowing warm air, yet the car was (obviously) getting hotter and hotter. I suspect that anyone in a normal car would rarely, if ever, set their CC at anything like 15.5. In my experience 19/21 is about the max range of settings I've ever selected. Gonna do the 25 mile trip to work shortly and will see how it goes. The car is gonna be warmed up as I've just done 15 miles.
I really cant be arsed to get the digital thermometer out again and start keeping measurements but I think it may be the only way. The service guy did mention something about changing the entire aircon system which I suppose is an option, if a slightly drastic one!

So after yesterdays high and back where I started again this morning. I had been considering replacing the stereo with a grands worth of Kenwood, now I'm thinking about chopping the whole car in and buying a 'proper' make (probably VAG or maybe a Honda)

I've been on a 500km trip during the weekend, ~58mpg on trip comp.
Some issues I had:
-on countryside gravel roads the steering column rattles and metallic knocking sounds are produced.
-on the way back, at some point, the cruise did not want to set anymore. I tried several on/off cycles but no help. pushed buttons hard, no luck. after half hour or so, without stopping the car, it came back alive. The only thing was that I had to drop to 60km/h and before i was doing ~100...
-steering volume control was turning volume down regardless of + or - button pushed. volume knob worked ok. came back to normal after engine stop.
-and again, ACC. it can maintain const temp but it is sh*t in reaching target. almost feels like it cannot cool the temp without boiling you first you set the inside temp less than outside (20 compared to 22) and still it blows warm air for 5-10 minutes...

planning to visit my dealer again, soon

After this mornings comments I've done theround trip to work and back plus a view miles during the day so the car probably never really cooled down but now I feel a bit better about the thing. Outside temp was around 18 most of the day and I had the CC set on 19 or 20 and it seemed to be blowing cool air and keeping the car comfortable all the time. It seems the trip to the dealer has at least changed the systems behaviour, probably to the point that someone else had commented about - that it needs to run for 30 or so minutes before it reaches a point that it's got control of. This seems to be my experience today. I'm not saying it's acceptable as the CC should be working properly within a few miles, certainly not 30 minutes of driving.
So to sum up: better but no cigar. I'll see how it goes for the next week or so to see if there is now a pattern to how it's working.

Default Air Con

Hi

Had no problems with my air con. It blows cold air so well that I sometimes switch it off.

Sounds like there must be a fault with those mentioned here if the car isn't getting cold straight away. Mine works so well I've had the rear seat passangers begging me to switch it off!!!
