How fast do you drive when shifting from 3rd gear to the 2nd? My cee'd allows me to graciously (without forcing anything) shift to second gear at 20km /h or less. This is quite frustrating. Further more I can shift to the first gear at less then 5 km/h. I have also driven hyundai accent, which normally shifts to lower gears ar higher speeds (eg. to 2nd at 30 or 40 km/h). It there something wrong with my transmission?
Thanks in advance!

The only think I didn't like to much when I did the test-drive was the gear travel.. I was expecting the gears were a bit more "closer"! Even on my Corsa B I think it has a bit less travel!

I haven't noticed my speeds when down shifting, but then again, it is very rare that I would change from 3rd to 2nd, 4th or 5th to 2nd yes and I have not noticed any problems at all. My Cee'd now has just under 17000 miles on it so I would expect that the 'box is well bedded in by now.
With my style of driving 'brakes to slow, gears to go..' there is really no need to change from 3rd to 2nd. I also find that I don't use 4th gear much 'going up' the box. 3rd then 5th and you don't notice any difference at all.

Yep! Oh well, another thing to mention when I can next get the car in to the stealer.
I have already complained about this to my dealer. The shop looked at it and they replied "It's not going to be better, it's like this by design". This might be poor design I would think. Now I haven't had any problems engaging the reverse for some months. You will learn how to do it eventually I have had a lot of these complaints to my dealer during the 6 months I have had the car, now I have settled with the fact that if you buy a low end car you will get a bit of low end quality. I have driven mostly Audi's, Lexus, Volvo and Saab and other premium cars during my years as a driver and now made the plunge, switching from a premium brand. You get a bit what you paid for. Don't get me wrong, I like the Kia, I'm mostly satisfied but sometimes I get annoyed by the little things but I have paid a quarter of the price that I normally buy a car for so I have realized that I cannot complain. The ceed is really a great little car!!

Whilst I mostly agree with you ahlinj, the gearbox isn't really somewhere where I would expect to see signs of cost cutting. Quality of interior trim, exterior finish , level of spec, suspension / handling, noise reduction etc. It's not like a 5 speed box with a reverse gear is cutting edge technology is it! I had a better reverse gear selection in a 1983 Ford Escort I bought new. There's no excuse over 20 years later.
