Hello everyone. This is my first post but I have been reading others with interest. I should be taking delivery of my new Cee'd within the next couple of weeks and wanted to ask two questions of you all. The first is about paint work and interior protection, e.g. Supagard. I have been quoted £360.00 for this, which I think is a bit excessive as I read somewhere that the cost of materials to the dealer is about £60.00. Has anyone had this treatment done to their new car and do you think it is worth it? My second query is about mats and mudflaps. Again, the £150.00 I have been quoted I think is a bit too much. Does anyone know where I can buy them, apart from the dealers.
I have chosen the SW model, 1.6crdi LS in Meteor red.

Hi
I've had a car Supagard'ed from new and "no" it's not worth it. It lasts about 6 months (during which time you'll find the car easy to wash and all shiney!) but then starts to fade. Personally I use Autoglym resin, which lasts about 3 months (more if you add the polish protector on the top) and total cost is about £20.00 a year (and some gentle exercise!) for all 4 of my cars. Something oddly rewarding about car cleaning too... not sure why....
Mats and mud flaps.... no way. Halfords, £14.99 for winter mats, and then maybe £30.00 for a "best set". Mud flaps a bit 80's.... (and as you'll be cleaning the car anyway save your money!)
These are dealer add ons to get hard earned money out of your pocket. And to add commission to under worked Kia sales staff
Cheers Soggydog. That's what I thought. Have you seen Car polish | Products | Auto Express
They put Turtle Wax Platinum Extra Gloss in top spot on their tests, but I have used Autoglym for a good while too and find it easy to use and long lasting. I think I will be doing as you suggest; forget the mud flaps, visit Halfords for some mats and polish the car myself. Thanks for your input.
I bought an ex-demo black 1.6 crdi LS Cee'd yesterday (great drive incidentally) and the only wax that's going near my 'baby' is Swissol (now Swissvax I believe.) With a great new motor Steve101, I'd ditch the Autoglym (and others of that ilk) and move up to the Swissol or Zymols of this world. I've got a basic Swissol Onyx kit - may cost you £70 for the wax plus prep kit (or £40 for wax on its own) but your car will love you for it.

Supagard (or the like) is a rip off and the dealers earn a fortune from this. The products don't last either. You can however pick up the products on eBay. They come as a two part set and I picked up one for £15. So at that price, it is worth doing, even though it takes best part of a day. You'll probably be more thorough and do a better job yourself than the dealer would do.
I have just checked my invoice, I paid an extra £106.84 for front & rear mudflaps & Kia Cee'd mats front & rear - fitted.
As for the Supaguard, didn't bother spent £50 on autoglym stuff, did the bodywork, wheels & seats in one day. That was 4 months, 7000 miles ago & the water still beads on the paint. Cleaning is a doddle, just a spray to get the bugs off the front and use the Autoglym shampoo, comes up great.
If you really want the Kia branded extra's, then i would recommend haggling for them when purchasing your car. I have negociated both front and rear mud flaps and their premium car mats for free with my car [ceed sw ls]. They cost next to nothing to a dealer and it is far worth them getting you to buy the car than lose it over a bit of plastic and fabric. Before anyones says that i probably paid for them in the purchase price I also struck a deal for £13125 brand new on the road with the above. A bargain.
