So, can I expect to have full acces to playlists and song names on the display?

Or will it just play them and display "ipod" or such on the display?

The new ipod nano video is hot, might be the first thing to buy for the car...

Do we know that having the cable is the only guarantee that your particular car has working iPod compatibility?? - what connectors are on each end?

My car is going to go in to get it's dead radio problem sorted, hopefully this week, and I'm going to be asking (demanding possibly!) that they provide the promised iPod compatibility.

That hybrid cable was in the glove box of the showroom SW I rooted through and comes as standard with all SWs, and now all normal Cee'ds as well. So don't take an old stock (non SW) car of the dealer's hands if you want full iPod compatibility. Get one from the import centre (2-3 weeks) or place a factory order (6-8 weeks) if you want the indicators on the left stalk on an LS as well. See my other thread for a full discussion on that.

Oh, and all new fully iPod compatible models come with flip style key too.

Although mine is not the fully compatible head unit it does allow me to select songs from the head unit but will only play the MP3's on the iPod so I had to cenvert all the tracks to MP3 as it will not play AAC files, but it does show the song name when the correct setting is selected on the head unit, however when selecting a track it initally shows the random four letter file name assigned by the iPods database.

Do you have full access to the playlists on the head unit or do you need to access them through the ipod itself?

Its just that to me that cable looks like its just supplying power via the USB port and carrying the audio down the jack connector into the AUX port next to the USB socket. Meaning that the full ipod control would come from the iPod itself and not from the head unit, unless there is more in the USB connection.

Could you post a picture of the head unit too please tutchy?

I'm picking up my SW on friday so will have a good play with the whole iPod interface. My wife even bought me a new style iPod Nano complete with hard plastic case just for my new commuter wagon. Bless.

That's kinda my thinking: use my old G4 40GB iPod in the cee'd and it's an excuse to buy a new one! Now, if only I (OK, local Kia) can get the thing working then my plan will start to fall into place!
