Paintwork - protection strips

My Kia Cee'd 3 CRD1 1.6 was registered in April 2010 and I purchased it as a used car in May 2013. I have noticed that the paintwork on the lower rear quarter of the rear nearside and offside doors is starting to flake. I mentioned it to my local Kia Garage and was told that the protection strips must have been removed.

I am not aware that this car ever had protection strips fitted. Can anyone advise please when this enhancement became standard on this model? As my car is still within the five-year paint warranty I feel this should apply and I should not have to pay to have my car re-sprayed. Thanks.

Every Ceed I have looked at has these strips. Ours is a August 2010 and certainly has them.

If your car has been involved in an accident in the past not all repairers refit the protection strips. If this is the case you will have no warranty.

Some owners remove them because they can look slightly unsightly on some colours. Kia would consider this a modification and again no warranty.

Since you bought the car at 3 years old you have no idea what the previous owner/owners did with the car. Since certain factory fitted parts are missing I am afraid you are wasting your time.
