Default engine noise

Hi all heres hoping you can help another Kia Sedona owner.....

I have a Kia Sedona 55 plate over in the U.K. It is a 2.9 ltr Diesel
It has done 51.000 miles and has not missed a beat until recently.
The car has started to make aa noise a loud tapping noise almost like a a tappet loose at specific revs in all gears.
1st gear say 1500 2nd gear 1750 3rd 2000 4th 2250 and 5th about 2500 or at least there about.
There is no noise in neutral and seems no noise when on ramps wheels off and spinning at speed.
So it only seems to be under load.
Worse noise was pointing up hill and pulling away.
If I just coast along with hardly any throttle picking up speed there is no noise however as soon as I touch the throttle a little more the noise kicks in, if I back off it goes again.

The only "odd" thing is that either the noise is much less or non existant before the engine reaches operational tempreture.

The forum points to oil pump problems or injector problems all seem like serious problems.
My local kia garage wants Ł100 just to look at it.....
I have no lights on, no smoke that I am aware of and mainly use for long journeys 150 miles couple or three times a month.

If any one can suggest what may be wrong or at least point me in a direction it would be GREATLY appreciated.

Oil has been changed yearly and has just recently been done with a fuel filter and air filter, (usual service) stuff.
The only other thing that looks odd is the oil has gone black quite quick....

Hi again all
I have no readings from an obd reader, no melted plastic around the injectors, no misfire.......
Someone please point me in the right direction

Any thoughts ...........pretty please

A tappet type noise can be diesel knock. Usually found by the injector leaking diesel or air past the copper seal. The easiest way to check is to remove the intercooler so you can see the injectors. If there is no sign of diesel try running the engine and spraying some water around the injectors to see if it bubbles.
My wifes car had really bad diesel knock that only really surfaced when the car was under load, but it also smoked from the bonnet as it was leaking quite a bit of diesel! Some new copper washers (which were more than half the price and in stock at one dealer than another, go figure!) sorted the problem.
