Thread Starter (Thread Starter)

Hi all, I have had my 2004 Sedona for 18 mon with little to no problems and basically love it. Van has 130,000 and runs great. Yesterday on a trip to Cleveland from Erie, approximately 100 miles each way, I noticed on the way home the check engine light came on and is still on. Had codes checked and am getting a PO431 code, anyone got any ideas? All help appreciated and thanks

Anyone know how to clear check engine lite on dash?

OBD P0431 is an emissions system code that nominally indicates that the Bank 2 (the rear bank of cylinders) manifold catalytic converter is not doing its thing to spec anymore. Shouldn't be a driveability problem, its just an emissions issue.

Normally this will be that the manifold catalytic converter itself has failed & needs to be replaced, but could be that the oxygen sensor that monitors the rear bank MCC performance (i.e. the one on the exhaust pipe side of the MCC) has failed. Could be an exhaust leak but I think you'd have probably heard that before getting a P0431.

This is not info from experience with a Kia (P0431 being a generic code), but I'm pretty sure the same will apply to the Sedona 3.5l V6. (Doesn't apply to those of us with the 2.5l V6 which has a different arrangement).

A simple test of the O2 sensor would be to check its resistance & see if its to spec - I know its 6 ohms cold on the 2.5l, not sure what that is for the 3.5l engine though.
