Question Timing Chain or Belt?

Without me getting my hands dirty or opening the bonnet, can anyone tell me if it is a timing belt or a chain that is fitted on a 2005 Kia Sedona 2.9crdi diesel and at what mileage should it be changed please? Also i have heard that the engines were manufactured by Mercedes, is this true or are they just a Kia copy?

Yep Mio Cid is right its a belt change at 60,000 or as soon after as possible as EBay is normally litted with mid to late 60 thousand milers with belt gone. Engine is a Kia one and used in the 2.9 CRDI Hyundai Terracan with the engine turned as opposed to transverse which makes changing the belt a 2 hour job instead of 5+ and bare knuckles

Unhappy many thanks

Thanks a lot for the info, mine has done 63,000 and I haven't a clue if it has been done yet so I suppose its another job in the "To Do" list. don't suppose any of you know, but I have a centurion DVD player fitted in it but I cant get any sound except through headphones, There are 2 phono plugs in the line out that disappear into the loom but look like they could go up to the screen, any clues please? Oh it has a JVC KD-G540 fitted just in case it goes to that, up to now Ive not found any loose wires not connected. thanks.

Default dvd PLAYER

same car on mine I think the phonos go upto thescreen which has the infrared sender for the Headphones,
On mine they are also re paralleled at the cdvd player to an FM transmitter so you can pick up DVD on the in car radio.

Think the timing belt is the priority mines at the same point!

If your timiming belt has done more than 60,000 miles i would get it done ASAP, some do go to 80-90,000 miles before letting go most go in the 60-70,000 mile region. Have a look on EBay there are at least 3 on there at the moment with belts gone and 1 with a buggered oil pump which seems to start around 130,000 miles

As far as your DVD player, have you tried using your radio channel? I had the same issue as you, but discovered that one of my lower FM stations was actually wired in for sound on the DVD player. I want to say it's like FM 89.1, 89.3 or somewhere around there. Put a DVD in and once it's playing just cycle through the stations... but make sure you don't have any headphones plugged in.

Hi ive just brought a kia sedona on a 54 plate. it has done 177000 miles and because it didnt have any service history with it we decided it would be a sensible idea to get the cambelt changed. The engine was making this noise before we had the camb change and the garage told us we needed to change tensioner also because it had callapsed he sed that wud also stop the noise. we have now got the car back but the engine is still noisy.is this normal for the kia sedona ??
