Default Starting problems

Been having this problem for a while now where when I turn the key in the ignition there is just a click sound, the engine doesn't turm over at all. At first after about 4 tries the engine would suddenly start and away I'd go, now it takes up to 10-20 tries before the engine will start Then after doing my journey of about 10 miles when I needed to re-start it would go straight away at first, now it's doing the 10-20 times to start then as well.

When I've had flat batteries on previous cars, the engine would always try to start, albeit wioth not enough ooomph to fire before it did the click only noise.

Does this sound like the battery ?

On a side note so I don't get stuck anywhere I've seen a 3 in 1 re-chargable portable jumpstarter in a local shop for £25.00. It states the following:

battery type - re-chargeable sealed lead acid
Battery 12v 17ah
900 amp peak power
400amp boost power

Features

Inflation upto 260psi
12v dc output socket with overload protection
Charging level/battery condition indicator
400amp coloured cables
Rubber insulated 400amp booster clamp.

It's made by AM-Tech

Would it start the sedonna OK? It's a diesel 2.9 04 plate model

sounds most likely the starter or relay is failing or possibly a poor earth connection
as for the am tech jump starter my experience of their products has been ok but they are cheap n cheerfull so i would say that it is unlikely it would have enough guts for a 2.9 diesel but the easy way is tell them what you want it for, buy it, if it works ok result! if not, take it back and tell them its not up to the job and get a refund

Thx for the reply. Sorry for being dumb but I'm assuming if it's either the starter or relay then they need to be replaced ? Also where would the poor earth connection be ?

Re the jump starter good idea, thx am I right in assuming that if it was up to the job, it would start the car even if the starter motor is buggered, OR if it is a bad starter motor then the jump starter is a waste of money ?

EDIT: OK found the earth of the neg battery terminal and it's attached firmly enough.

My Sedona SE done this exact same thing. Over time the number of turns/clicks increased to the point where I only just managed to start it.
It was the starter motor and the KIA dealer said it was quite a common problem on this car.

It was £254 fitted by my KIA dealer (Harbour Garage, Whitstable).

I don't know how difficult it would be to fit yourself.

Ouch, just haven't got that sort of cash at the mo, I wonder if it can be serviced or repaired ? On my older cars you used to be able to undo a few bolts and take it off and give it a clean up and it would be right as rain. Can't even see where it is on the Sedona though as the positive wire dissapears under the engine

If its an Automatic, put your foot on the brake, shift gear lever from Park to Neutral & then start it.
If it starts, its likely the sensor bushing on the gear lever, cheaper than a new starter motor.

Hi,
My sedona (2005 SE+)started doing exactly the same thing about 2 weeks ago,at first I thought it was an immobiliser problem but then after a little guesstimation decided that it could possibly something to do with the starter, and found this thread. If I don't get this fixed sometime soon....How long has yours kept going so far? Are we talking a couple of months or will I have to sleep at work tonight ?

Hi Babalas, thx for that I will try it.

Rockhopper, this has been going on for a few weeks now but I don't use the car everyday. It is definately getting worse though.
