Hi
I recently had a cambelt snap on my Sedona 2.9 TDI at around 30 mph. When I stripped it down all the rockers were broke on the exhaust side and 4 on the inlet side. When I stripped the head and took a look at the valves they were not bent at all. So I'm assuming that although its an interference engine it would appear that the rockers made out of alloy are meant to break and this stops the valves bending' I lapped the valves in and reassembled the engine put a new belt on it and it runs as it did before the belt snapping. Maybe I was lucky or maybe not with it not bending the valves, thought it is something to bare in mind if this happens to you.

Can anyone verify this theory with KIA ? My belt was done @ 70k miles and needs doing again IMO as is now got 127K miles.
I plan to get it sorted in a few months before I tow my caravan to France and back ( nearly 1800 miles ! )

When I had the problem with the cam belt Kia UK and the2 dealers in Leicester were less than helpful.Kia UK didn,t know what make the injectors were.I needed to know as they were well stuck in the head .I asked about weather the rockers were meant to break to avoid bending the valves and I may as well have been speaking Latin to them,no one knew .This seems to be the norm for Kia dealers in the uk

Its quite easy apart from getting the water pump pulley off and the bottom cover. To line the timing up when you have the covers etc off line up the two cams so the marks a line ,if the timing was correct then the injector pump and the crankshaft marks should line up with their indicators on the block. Put a 6 mil drill bit in the hole on the injector pulley and into the hole behind it in the block. Thats more or less all you need to know
