Default C02 emissions - 2007 CRDi auto

Apologies to those not in the UK. We have a strange road fund taxation system over here which puts vehicle into bandings, based on their C02 emissions.

I've recently swapped out my 2004 CRDi auto for a new shape 2007 CRDI auto.

The old one was very high on emissions, but the new engine is much better, being rated at 224 (or so I thought). However, according to Kia themselves, the 224 rating is only relevant from some point during 2008 and the new style 2006/7 models are rated as 237 which puts them in the mega expensive tax banding.

Bugga! That's an extra £200 per year that I hadn't bargained on.

Could I just check if anyone else in the UK with a new style Sedona diesel auto 2006/7 is also rated as 237 = Band G?

Default They are screwing us even higher up the jacksy.

Thats a bummer i have a manual which is a band lower than the automatic.
I guess you have checked on the DVLA site where all the emissions are listed??
Is there a reference to your emissions on your V5 form i seem to think there is but i could be wrong.

Yes, the V5 has a CO2 rating which lists 237. However, the DVLA official website shows 224 grams per thingy:- VCAcarfueldata.org.uk - Search Results - Further Information

Speaking to Customer Services at Kia HQ they say that the 224 figure only relates to 2008 onwards and not when the common rail engine was introduced in 2006/7.

The absurdity of the UK car tax system and the governments discussion to retrospectively apply this stupid tax banding system to all vehicles produced since 2001 was the main reason I ousted my 2003 Sedona SE Auto at the end of last year - the long term running costs were looking hideously expensive here in the UK.

the sedona is not the only vehicle this has happened to other manufacturers have been "fiddling" with their emissions to get vehicles into lower tax brackets so when investigating a car purchase you have to be sure the emmisions figure and hence tax is correct for that year/model but it is having the effect of battering the prices of some cars more than an almost identical car ie when we bought our 07 sedona we could have got an identical auto on a 57 with less miles for less cost but we were buying with the intent of keeping for the long term so the extra tax burden every year plus higher fuel consumption meant we went for the manual
