Default Intermittant start

Hi
havn't been on for ages as my van has been soooo good, however, in the last week my car has started to show signs of not starting right.

When I turn the key to start 1st thing in the morning, I get the glowplugs up, once off, i switch to position 2 on the key and i get a click.
If i turn off and repeat the car starts.

The only thing i can think of is that its been very wet here recently [floods and have been driving thro about a foot of water] and there is a corroded terminal somewhere in the starter cct.

Any idea's ?

plan tomorrow is to locate starter motor and clean up any contacts there.

Cheers

Iain

Same here, in the last week my 2003 Sedona SE Auto has started doing exactly the same thing.
Anyone know what is causing it?

Norman, mine has now stopped doing this. Basically I got under the car and splurged everything electric I could see with WD40 and its never happened again [touch wood], I suspect its the solenoid connection to the starter motor corroding and a second turn of the key is enough to burn through and kick it.

try the WD40 though.

Thanks for the tip Iain, I'll give it a go this weekend, although mine's got really bad the last week. Sometimes it takes multiple (10+) attempts to get it going.
What with this, the corroding underside waterpipes, the CAM belt due for replacement, I'm starting to think it may be time to move it on.
At least it looks like the goverment are going to back down on the retrospective road tax hike so we won't end up paying £415 VED from next year.

Iain

As a final update, I did try the WD40 but it didn't work for me. It got to a point where it would only start once in maybe 30 attempts.
In the end I took it into a main dealer who diagnosed a faulty starter motor and fitted a new KIA original for £254 (which was cheaper than Forumula 1 Autocentre who quoted £332).
