Diesel pump
Hi all
After reading about the possible diesel pump failures I have spoken with several different Delphi agents about this issue.
Firstly there seems to be no way of identifying a pump that may have this issue, there are no batch numbers affected or cars manufactured between dates.
Secondly, there was the suggestion that the low sulfur fuel we have in the UK has reduce lubricity properties of older 'full fat' diesel, causing early failure of the injection system components namely the fuel pump.
To 'try' and negate this several of the centers I contacted recommended using a lubricity additive to the fuel, I said like Wynns of STP and was roundly lambasted for suggesting so. They all recommended using Stanadyne Performance Formula.
So I have been told, this is a non-alcohol based additive, which is what causes issues with a lot of other fuel additives, and is recommended by Ford, GM, VW, John Deere, Navistar, Caterpillar, and AM General for use in high pressure injection systems.
I have now been using this for around 10,000 miles and to date nothing to report.
It may be snake oil, it may not. But it's not an expensive one.
Just thought I'd share what I had found out with you all.
Cheers
Chaz
PS I have not seen this product for sale in autofactors and had to order it by mail from diesel injection specialists.
