Default 2002 Sedona P0446 fault code

I am a new to Kia Sedona owner. Just bought van and it failed emissions test with the check engine light on. Kicked out a P0446 Evaporative Emission System Vent Control Circuit error. Can anyone tell me what this means, and better yet, how to remedy the problem. Thanks in advance!!

Welcome to the forum.

The fuel tank evap error code is very often caused by a gas cap that was not properly secured or its seal is bad.

Check the gas cap and replace it if the seal looks bad, then disconnect the battery for a few minutes (switch on the lights or some other load at this time to ensure all residual charge is depleted) to reset the error codes stored in the ECU.

Thanks for the reply. You're right on the money. My wife went to get the emissions test done today and they tested (and passed) the gas cap. They didn't even test emissions for her, but pulled the error code and gave that to her with a failed test paper. I disconnected the battery and CEL gone. I'll have her go back tomorrow for the real test. Thanks again. Hopefully, this will be a pretty dependable vehicle and I won't have to use the forum often, but for a first time use, same day service, problem solved, not a bad place to be!!!!

Thanks again.
