Question Check Engine and strange code

We have an '03 Sedona with almost 80k miles on it. About a week ago, the CEL came on. My wife brought it to Autozone and a sales associate with a marginal grasp of how to use the scanner read out several codes. One was related to the gas cap and one mentioned the O2 sensor. I never did get any numbers.

I called our local Kia dealer who told us just to drive it for a few days to see if the error cleared on its own. When it hadn't after a week, I called them back and brought it in for them to read it. After a $90 diagnostic fee just to plug in their computer, they told me it came up with a code they'd never seen before. It took several hours with Kia to get a troubleshooting tree, and by the time they got it, it was the end of the day, so now I need to bring it back.

The two codes are P0456, "Small Evap Leak," which I know could be the gas cap. Their mystery code is P1159, which they list as "Variable Induction System."

Has anyone ever seen this code, and what was the resolution? I know my way around an engine, but I haven't ponied up the $150 to buy a shop manual for this car yet. Thanks.

Better late than never, maybe this will help someone:

I got a obdii code: P0456

I reset it and will see if it will return. I did retighten the gas cap too.

In my Kia Sedona service manual (hard copy). Here are the trouble areas...

Codes P0442, P0455, and P0456 you need to look at the following areas:
  • Fuel filler cap loose or missing
  • Fuel filler cap o-ring missing or damaged
  • Faulty or damaged fuel filler pipe
  • Leaking,, disconnected or plugged fuel vapor lines
  • Fuel in lines due to faulty Rollover Valve (RV), On-Board Refueling Vapor Recovery Valve (ORVR valve)
  • Canister close valve clogged, stuck open or closed
  • Improperly installed purge solenoid valve (PSV)
  • PSV stuck open/closed
  • Faulty fuel tank pressure sensor
  • Leaking canister or catch tank

Hey,
I am new on this forum. I have a problem that may be related. My wifes Kia Sedona (2004) will run fine for a while and all of a sudden we will be driving and it starts jumping like it is running out of gas. I have a service engine light on some times. The code has been read as a purge valve problem. Where do I locate the purege valve and how hard is it to replace?

Mark
