Picked up our new sedona today.
Metalic Black, LE 2003 '53 plate 2.9Crdtdi. 29000 miles, one owner loads of extras including parking sensors and DVD system.
We were very lucky because we saw the advert before it was officially listed and the car dealer had only previously sold petrol Sedonas and so priced it the same.
Apparently between us placing the deposit and picking it up today he received over 20 phone calls. On the Monday after we'd placed the deposit he arrived at work to find someone had been waiting outside since 7.30am to be the first to see it.
Not only did we get it for less than 8K but we even got a good px on our crappy old Daewoo Nubira.

..blimey a Crdtdi model !!
Salesmen are great at giving spin ( I am in sales ) .He might have taken 20 calls but probably for other cars.
Have you got any pukka warranty left ? If so get surfing through this forum for the common faults to watch for ( search through my threads would be a good start )
Maybe I should put mine up for sale now I've got 90% of the bugs fixed. Its only the boneshaking struts to sort out now.
Yeah Ok so I had dislexic fingers ang somehow generated an extra d and t.
Anyway, checked the threads and have spent a long time looking for a decent one. Trust me I've seen some right lemmons and some have been up for stupid money, well over priced.
I think I checked for most of the common faults and as a QA engineer dealing with contractors/salesman daily, I can assure you I know a Delboy from genuine guy. Even when being careful and with a decent warranty in place there is always an element of luck involved with buying any new car so for the next 6 months I'll just have to keep my fingers crossed i suppose.
All in all, compared to a say, a Galaxy, for the same amount of money, the Sedona offers much more car and a much younger lower mileaged equivalent. Plus the Sedona can actually legally tow my Caravan.
So, here we go, fingers crossed and onward ever onward.
Some on this forum would have you to believe most Sedona and Carnival vehicles are lemons or that they are sub quality. The first generation were built and sold as basic people movers with extra value built in at a price families could easily afford. Kia was very successful in selling these vehicles and getting Kia recognized at a time it had few models. People were smitten by the pricing for so much value. Still are.
Facts at hand say there are very few with engine problems reported. I do not lessen the frustration that these same people have had a bad experience and suffered from ineffective customer service in some cases. However, one must not forget Sedonas and Carnivals very successful in the countries it they are sold in. The newest generation is exceptional. I wish you many years of happy motoring MIB! May your Sedona remain a great value for you.

Schnauzer,
Thankyou for the words of encouragement and I'm sure we will be happy. As I repplied to ebod we have looked at many. In adition we have also looked at the 'competion' and have not found anything to offer as much value for money and versatility as the sedona.
One thing that does puzzle me is the general doom and gloom feeling I get from reading many of the threads. As a member of the Delica owners club (MDOCUK.CO.UK) I'm used to general chat fom members about the good things as well as the problems and a very friendly' family' atmosphere.
So come on guys, remember the glass is always half full!
congrats Mark, we all love ours, bought off ebay in october it was completely fooked i didnt know when i bought it as i know nothing about cars, wouldnt start 2 days later...transpires that the fuel pump had gone , found out the warranty didnt run out till 1st Jan 07, also found out that it was an import from malta and that the seller would not send the v5 in as i had left bad feedback for him.
Basically to cut a very long story short we managed to get all the correct docs and get the car sorted from kia for nothing before the warranty ran out.
They replaced all sorts including the pump, went over it with a fine tooth comb and sorted everything out before the warranty finished.
The garage had it from October till we got it back 2nd Jan this year, most of the time it was just sat with them waiting for paperwork to be sorted but i must say this is the best service i have ever received from and car dealer.
So like the saying goes "Turned out nice again"
We payed £4300 for a 2004 53 plate Green 2.9crdi lx 113000 on the clock, the bloke at kia said would of cost us 5-6k to put right , thank goodness it didnt, so far we are very pleased with it

Hi Mark (MI, thank you for your kindness, too. I am also at a lost at times with some posts being so depressing. At the same time I understand and feel for those who have had bad experiences with less than great service from a dealer or customer service person. It is not Kia's goal to tick anyone off. Many fail to realize Kia is an old company but it wasn't until 1997 that the company went global seriously. It took Hyundai investment of time and money to get Kia moving forward so quickly as it has in the past few years. Today, Kia's quality is on par with its competition and awards and reviews are revealing this fact. Like its competition, it took time for Kia to get to this stage of quality. Some models were better than others in quality and reliability. Sedona has never been a problematic vehicle as some would like to make a case. However, there have been some issues. It is the goal of Kia management to do right by its customer base following procedures that require assistance from dealers and regional staff. Any broken link in the chain of assistance will cause customers to be upset. Some will like how they are treated, others will not. It is nature of the industry. We cannot please everyone.

We have a family atmosphere here. Unfortunatley, we're just one of those families who puts the "fun" in dysfunctional. On the one side we have the folks who got burned because they invested a lot of money only to get a vehicle that doesn't work well. (I'm in this lot.) On the other side, there are those who love and defend Kia, making excuses for poor quality and wanting the jilted to hold their complaints. (That's where Kia Exec Schnauzer is.) There are some in the middle. Nevertheless, regardless of which side they're on, most will help when a problem crops up.

That's like saying: "The bad news is, our vehicle will not run. The good news is, we'll save on gas!" Just razzing you.
Welcome to the group, Mark. Hope you have many happy, safe, and troublefree miles with your Carnival. If you have a question, this is the place to get an answer!
